Now Playing is a non-GUI Widget that dumps the artist, album, and track currently being played by iTunes to a text file every 30 seconds. If iTunes is stopped, the text file will be cleared. This can be used in conjunction with a CGI script to display the current song on my a page. Since there is no GUI, you can only edit the target file by option-selecting this Widget from the Konfabulator Gear menu.
[Editor's Note] And to close, it, contol-click its name in the Gear menu.

Updated to use the iTunes object from the Konfabulator framework. Will only write to the file if the artist, album, or title has changed. Explicitly checks for the AppleScript error string "AppleScript Error: AppleEvent timed out." to allow recovery (i.e. that string is not recognized as an artist, album, or title).

Any chance of us seeing this for Windows users?

Update: Looks like the iTunes crash may have been caused by another widget. I've been running it successfully now. Wesley has tested it with 10.3.3 and it doesn't crash for him either.

This ran great for me last week, but now that I've installed OS 10.3.3 it crashes iTunes after a while. iTunes will keep going if I don't load Now Playing. I hope it can be fixed. I really enjoyed having the Now Playing file on my local web server.
