Widget still works for me. Let me know what specifically isn't working for people and I'll have it fixed. This has really been a side project for me but I want to get it back working very soon and would like to fix any specific problems people have. Let me know ASAP and i'll get it fixed, hopefully.

this doesn't work smoothly if your email client is set up to leave messages on the server for a period of time. every time MailMan checks the server, it pops up if there are any messages there at all (as opposed to just new ones). this defeats the purpose as it will ALWAYS say i have messages, when in fact they're not new. i leave messages on the server for a week so that i can reply to previously-read messages while on the road. if the client deleted them on download, i wouldn't be able to access them remotely. instead, Thunderbird deletes them a week later. don't know how the widget's code works, but it seems a simple fix. rather than looking for a msg count >0, why not just keep track of the msg count since the last client launch, and then pop up when the number is greater than that?

I just updated to Konfabulator 2.0.1 and this widget stopped working. It's a shame too, because it's the most useful out there...

Sorry it's taken forever for me to respond. I'm not sure what the problem could be. Unfortunately, since everybodies email server is different, problems can occur. I do know for a fact that it works fine in Panther. Just about everybody who's using it is using it in Panther so it's probably an issue specifically with your computer Richard C. As for your problem Thomas, are you able to use the widget without using Keychain access? Or are you able to use the widget with keychain access. It's odd that the only thing that changed was your username and it no longer works. Let me know the specifics of the problem and hopefully I can help. Just go ahead and email me.

I was glad to have a good thing to inform me about new mails on my mail server until my server company changed all usernames to 'username@mailservername.de' - Now MailMan (1.5) comes up, seems to be looking for mail and disappears without any comment. I'm sure there is mail, and Apple's "Mail" has no problems, but I can't get "MailMan" to behave correctly. What's wrong? (It's pop3)

Are you using an IMAP account or a POP account? Detecing unread messages in IMAP accounts is a job of the email client and not the delivery agent, which in this case it fetchmail. I'm not saying that it can't at all be done but I don't have much experience with fetchmail and IMAP so possibly someone else might help with a solution.

Widget would be "better" if it only "found" unread messages in the inboxs and not, as in my case, the "Junk" Folder. Would you consider upgrading using this possibility as a preference ?

Thunderbird will be added shortly for you. Are there any other mail client requests? I'll do just about as many as I can within the next week or so, so if you use a client that isn't supported, let me know and I'll add it. As far as Yahoo and Netscape accounts go, the only way for Mailman to check those accounts is if you upgrade your account to a pop account that can be checked through a program like mail or eudora. Sorry. Feel free to post other requests for the widget before the next release and, knowledge bearing, I'll try to add them to the next version.

If you are getting something other than the number of emails that you have then you have most likely entered something wrong in your server settings. Mailman uses Fetchmail (which is built into OS X) to check how much mail you have therefore it most likely says "Fe" and not "Fi", which is what happens when Fetchmail receives an unusual response, or no response from the server. Check your settings and make sure that they are all correct. Email me if you still can't get it working and we'll see if we can work through it.

For all those who want MailMan to check more than one account: just duplicate the widget and double-click the copy. You can run both copies with different preferences…
Have fun!

I like it and it is just what I need: comes up if you need it and goes away if you don't. No needless windows. But does anyone know, what its message "Fi" instead of the number of mails on the server means? Did I feed it uncorrectly?

A new version of the widget will be coming out within the next week or so that will support Mailsmith as well as Eudora. Some other changes might be included also but for now those are the biggest request. As far as 1.7 making it not work, I have no knowledge of this. I also have been unable to find a way to include the subject line and sender of emails within the widget. Be on the lookout for a new version within the next week or two.

Bryan,
I just upgraded to Konfab ver. 1.7 and it seems to have killed the widget. I did not change any prefs and my mail server info did not change, so I assume it's version 1.7's fault. anyone else have this problem?
Otherwise, fantastic widget. I've been using it for months. It's exactly what I wanted to replace Frogslapper with. (Maybe you could look at that app to see how to get sender and subject info.)

Nice one. But I would have appreciate that more than one mail account check. Would also be nice to have the choice on the size (i I found it big) and the color of the envelope. I use it with apple mail app.

There are plenty of mail checkers that check how many messages you have in your inbox in Mail.app. I wanted to write a widget that you didn't have to leave Mail.app open to use. This uses less resources and is a neater way of checking your mail. It only tells you what is on the server, then you have to get the mail through your program. If I could find out a way to do it I would retrieve the Sender and the Subject line from the emails and somehow let you check those without opening mail but that is a little more complex than I can handle right now in my spare time.

I cannot access the file at www.warmanproductions.com, it says 'access denied'. I'm eagerly waiting for the Entourage support... Any chance to support multiple addresses?

Check your server settings and make sure they are correct and if that doesn't work delete your preferences and start over. Seems like an odd problem that I've never seen before. Wish I could be more helpful. It only works with POP3 protocol so if your server is IMAP it won't work at the moment. I plan on upgrading it to support IMAP at a later date.
