I'm giving it four stars because I like the approach, but I'd like the ability to use with my mp3's without having to go through iTunes.
Great mini-widget series, btw. I love it.

Best Widget player I've seen so far--It just needs to pick up a few lessons from earlier ones. The main thing it still needs, which itunes remote needed too, but itunes_media_player had, is a way to change playlists. It would work perfectly for it to drop down from the title/time slide bar. Thanks for a great widget!

Why can't I make the track info go away when I don't want it!?!?!!! Also it makes no sense to have an unused button space that could be used for repeat... or making that darn track info go away
All in all not a bad widget though.

Great widget, but if you made the track position countdown draggable, so you can go to different parts of the tune, it would be truly perfect.
I think you should keep the top section for dragging the widget around, but you could have a _{] icon for minimising/maximising iTunes itself...

I have no problem with the widget on the Mac and it does 96% of what I need on the PC. BUt it does seem to go off to LaLa Land in Windows if I start to play a radio feed. It continues to play, but the Widget becomes un clockable and I need to End task on it.

Great remote! It works as it should and doesn't crash my WinXP-SP2 or any other programme! Constructive criticism: - The song info might look better if I'd be a little screen like the central blue area. - The info button lights up as red; this might look better if a similar colour to the central blue is used? - The top button without function could be used to launch iTunes? Or minimize/maximize when it's running?

The best iTunes remote out there. I have absolutely no problems. In the next version I would like to see some function for the top button, which is currently defunct (in the outer ring, which includes the "information", "foreword", and "back" buttons). Maybe it could maximize the iTunes window?

Fantastic widget. I don't know though if it's my favorite -- it's definitely neck and neck though with iTunes Companion. And I had problems at first with iTunes 6, but after a reboot, and making sure that iTunes loads before the Remote does, everything works just fine.
BTW, I didn't notice all these comments about left-side trays. I just modified by copy of this widget to have a longer tray (I'm not so keen on scrolling info). Shouldn't be too hard to allow toggling a left-side tray. I'll let everyone know when I'm finished.

Mr. Rose, are you still reading these? Please, allow this widget to display slider information to the left. I can't believe it would take too long to reprogram the wideget accordingly. This is a beautiful piece of work but too disfunctional for most of us who already have everything on the right side of the screen. Thanks.

Excellent widget, but I'm yet another user asking if you could swap the info pop-out to the left. I keep it on the right side of my screen and would like to keep it mini most of the time, but check track info occasionally. It would be nice to make it closer to the right edge, but I need a distracting offset to view info. Just swap it over to the left side and the problem is gone.

By far the best iTunes player widget. Small, great features, easy to use. Only issue is that the color of the information bar (where the time is displayed) is dark so the number can be hard to see. Otherwise, it's perfect.

I'd like to be able to see the play mode, whether it is random/shuffle or normal, and change it back and forth. Don't see that on most (any) of the itunes widgets, so maybe it isn't easily done or something. Besides that, nice widget! thanks

this widget is one of the reasons i must have Konfabulator on all of my machines, let me say that first off.... it's fantastic =)
however i am also experiencing the problem nickm is having (and Gwendolyn provided the workaround for)... unfortunately that workaround is kind of annoying to perform every time if you just want to have all of your widgets available on startup. if you could fix that, it would be perfect.
...and if you had some extra time on your hands, maybe a color picker/slider ! great job though.

Finally works!
But there's some issues. Seems as though it lags in response. Try clicking back to a few songs and it you might see that there will be some delay in the response of the widget. In other words, click 3 or 4 times the back or forward button and you'll see it won't switch the songs quickly. I might just be my RAM, I have 512mb. I'm upgrading to a gig so that might change. I see this has been an issue since May 2004.
Also, the volume dial, I thought we were able to control the volume thru the widget, when I try to click and drag it, it won't move. And if I click on it and push the Down Arrow, the widget turns off. That's real weird.
Someone also mentioned that the top "button" having no functionality, maybe darkening it would convey that it's non-functional like the rest of the three.
None the less, it's a beautiful widget.

Here is a workaround, if mini iTunes Remote doesn't start correctly: Close all other widgets that need iTunes, close iTunes, then start mini iTunes Remote and after you started it start your other iTunes widgets again. It seems that mini iTunes Remote must be the one widget that starts iTunes.
I just love this widget.

How about a "bounce- back" feature once the info. button is opened/closed (the widget moves back to original location on desktop)?
I keep mine on the far right bottom and have to move its placement back and forth on my desktop to show music info. manually.
You are the best designer of widgets I have seen so far!

Awesome! A few suggestions which have been mentioned, but I'll put 'em here to have a concise (but short ;D) list: • A button to bring iTunes to the front. Maybe this could go in the top part of the button wheel? • Toggle shuffle on/off • Left/Right info drawer, to chose which side the info shoots out from Best widget I've seen so far! Exactly what I couldn't find before I discovered widgets, which was 2 days ago...
Thanks. Keep up the good work.

This ROCKS!!! --thanx guys. Near perfect widget, sleek design and all. Among many other neat features, being able to rate songs directly from Mini iTunes Remote is way cool. Couple of suggestions & feedback if we may: • On-and-off artwork display, specifically when editing iTunes lists/credits, even when the artwork IS attached to the file (Running Panther 10.3.5) • How about something like "On Air Now" showing before title of song in iChat Buddy List? Maybe just some music note icon? This could make things clearer for the other end. • Also when iTunes pauses, iChat online status turns to "Paused" which seems to be confusing for the other end (as current iChat status may still be "available")
Great fun anyhoo -- Kudos, dudes and WIDGET ON!!!

There's plenty of room for a shuffle on/off button between the stars and the time. I put one at hOffset=120 and it fit nicely, but I haven't been able to get it to actually work . . . so I guess I'll make this an actual feature request until the next time I get bored and try to figure out how to get it to work.

Nice, now I just have to figure out how/where to add a shuffle button. Or convince you to add it.
As others have noted the forward and back buttons don't function well when you want to skip forward or back multiple songs -- I was trying to do this and ended up having to wait 15-20 sec as it slowly caught up.
Still overall this is my iTunes mini controller of choice. Thanks!

The progress indicator acts a little funny when iTunes is paused, and it did once cause iTunes to launch as I was logging out (Ha! Take that, Perry!).
But I love the design, and the progress indicator is just sooo l33t!

I really love the design of the remote and the display scrolls now, which is great! However, I have switched back to the original iTunes remote which came with KonFabulator. Unfortunately, while the mini's design is brilliant it isn't nearly as responsive as it's larger predecessor. : (

Very cool widget. Would it be possible to add a little button to open iTunes itself. Sometimes I want to make the song "unchecked" so that it doesn't play ever again but that requires iTunes itself. Requesting an "unchecker" inside this fine widget is a bit too much to ask as it will clutter the display.

This is an excellent, well-designed, and extremely handy little widget! What I too would love to have in this widget is the scrolling of the text, and also the music notes so people in iChat can immediatly can tell it is music playing (like in the script for iTunes (Now playing in iChat). I found myself having to explain what my iChat status meant a few times. A pop up to choose a playlist would also be nice!

By far the best iTunes widget! However I would like the text to scroll in the information tab if it doesn't fit. Or a at least the option for it. Keep it up!

Great, beautiful widget :-) Do you think it would be possible to adapt this widget to control remotely iTunes on an other machine through the network ? Like this little application : http://homepage.mac.com/mjtomlin/iTunesRemote/

Excellent iTunes controller. I have a feature/information request: I've altered the miniremote.kon file so that the iChat Status feature says what I want except for one thing. The program iChatStatus (which crashed often for my setup and is no longer used) allowed the inclusion of a note character in the status text - I'd like the ability to use miniremote to display that note character. Can I do this on my own, or if not, is it possible to add that to the next revision? Thanks for another great product!

I'm loving it. One of the best widgets yet. I noticed when clicking the right arrow while info is expanded and the widget is floating over another window's controls, the first click advances to next song, but the next click (without moving the mouse) activates the window below not the widget itself. This makes it difficult to skip multiple songs in a row...

Awsome! Could be smaller, but it's too pretty to pass up! One little bug you might want to address, though... The neat little animation for internet streaming keeps playing after iTunes is closed. The animation is cool and all, but I'm getting a little sick of it, since my computer is too slow for me to wait for iTunes to open just so I can get out of the streaming mode... Will you please fix this? Thanks! :)

Only iChat AV can do that. The original iChat wasn't AppleScriptable (Which basically means you couldn't make other programs give commands to it).

the only problems i saw were that when i quit iTunes with a radio track playing it would relaunch iTunes sometimes. Other than that, the buttons are so thin that i'm always like "back track, gosh darnit!". Other than that, this is an amazingly beautiful widget. It was worth the wait. Oh yeah, it also took me a annoyingly-too-long (10 seconds) amount of time to figure out how to slide the tray in/out. But once i figured that out, i was possessed. I love this widget. Reccomending it to all my konfab friends that have powerbooks. Oh yeah, and the resexcellence guy is gonna have to update his theme screenshots. FREAKIN AWESOME.

Great work for sure and neat design! However, I would love the ability to control the iTunes on another machine via eppc:// with it. This should be pretty straight forward to do via appleScript. Playlist-selection and some prefs like 'turn off scrolling' would make it a permanent addition to my desktop. ;-)

Interesting the color deviation from other Mini's. I would like more config options (turn off scrolling, info on right or left, contextual iTunes options) and more colors to match other Mini's. Beautiful, but slightly unresponsive (set on topmost) at times.

ok...so this is a rockin widget (and I never thought I'd use an itunes one either). I digress. For the option to show current track in iChat, could you, arlo, add to the message, "now playing: example song - artist"? This would help those who just see some random song and artist name having never heard of either. Comprendes?

Great Widget (really beautifull)... A pref parameter to choose a 'low CPU consumption mode' will be great. it will disable the time feedback (the blue ring) and make updates not as frequently... good idea?

There really should be a way to see the playlists that are in iTunes and be able to select the music aswell without having to use iTunes each time. This IS a remote widget, right? One could just use iTunes instead. It does feel a little not so responsive - like when selecting a new track and when trying to click on the rating part and the display part. I have had many gfx glitches - when f.ex selecting a new track then a blue line appears in the play/pause area. Anyway, back to Audion :D

This little perfect widget is so beautiful, and has so much eye candy, it could stand alone as an iTunes remote app and would be worth every penny. I also have a suggestion for the top "button" that is non-functional. Make it a context-sensitive menu for iTunes so I don't have to open the iTunes interface at all, and can browse my libraries and playlists. Well, now that I think about it, I would still need to open the interface for iPod transfer, etc.. Still this would make every part of this widget functional and useful.

Fricken Sweet! I thought the same thing about that "missing" top button, but realized that you've got to have a space in the widget to click and drag. Makes sense.
And I, too, am greatly amused by the info drawer and how it opens. 5 stars.

Yup, I'm awed. At first I didn't really know why everyone was making such a big deal about this widget, but now I know.
I'm editing it so that it has a "Now Playing: " in front of my status in iChat, but that's about all I could do to it without making it worse. :-)

This is a very cool rethinking of the old iTunes remote. If I might be so presumptuous, I'd like to suggest in future versions the ability to flip-flip the volume/information pane. I'm one of those weirdos who keeps a lot of widgets on the far right hand side of my screen because I do 90% of my work in MS Word and that's the part of the screen I keep empty usually. I'm sure there are other people out there who would like the ability to put the info on the other side of the widget.
That said, however, I think this is pretty much the perfect widget.
