Minimalist note pad, without a huge titlebar, scrollbar, or margin, and the tiniest resize bezel. It remembers your notes between sessions, can read them aloud (command-space), or execute them in the Terminal (Command-enter).
Pure white, with no lumbering images, it takes up 12k, and you decide how much screen space. A bit better than physical paper, if you ask me!
Version 1.1 saves more often & allows you to seperately control background opacity, font size, & toggle the speech hotkey.

Second release. Likely the last, but then that's what I said the first time!

Great widget! The only area of improvement would be...for the 'background opacity' to be saved every time I restart Yahoo Widgets. I have a black desktop, and with its default setting, I can't see the notes I type at all. I fix the problem by setting the background opacity higher, but every time I reset Yahoo Widgets, it goes back to the default opacity...

great great widget, just one tiny suggestion. How about the option for a thin 1 or 2 pixel border that we can change the color of. That would make it really compliment my desktop, im a big fan of thin borders. =D Keep up the great work!

I really like this, and it is working great on my computer at work, but it is doing some very weird things on my laptop.
Something on my computer seems to be incompatable with it, and is causing it to record the words "zsh (I think) command not found" over and over again. The first time I only discovered when I made it speak, and it was still saying it when I walked back into the room after a bath! I shut it down, and then reinstalled it, but the same text keeps appearing. I don't want to rate it based on that, as it works perfectly elsewhere.

Really love the simplicity of this widget, but will likely switch to another note program as it does *not* retain text size settings, returing to default 11pt font each time it's loaded. Windows XP SP2.

I want to love this widget for its dazzling simplicity. But I'm having the same problems others have reported. Worst is disabling use of Ctrl-E in other programs--essential to me in Eudora, where it's the shortcut for closing and queueing outgoing messages. Also, reset defaults don't seem to lock in; when I reboot, the original default background and font have returned. I also have the white shadow problem. Too bad, because Paper is a wonderful idea.

I've found this great so far. If got over some of the minor issues (like changing the font to Verdana, making the default size 11, disabling speech etc) but I can't find a way to change the hotkey for movement from Ctrl-E. I use Photoshop a lot and Ctrl-E is used to merge layers. This widget disables Photoshop's use and gives a line of errors on the paper itself. If this could be fixed in a future release or someone could tell me how to edit the .kon file relating to this, it would be much appreciated.

The posters above commenting that this widget is hard to use or are complaining about interface issues are crazy! This is one of the most elegant and useful little apps I've seen. I'm a graphic designer who also runs his own business, and I jot down a lot of notes all day. PAPER's minimalist approach is it's appeal -- it really is like writing on a piece of paper, only much much better (spell check, copy/paste, etc). And totally customizable in size. Nothing large to load, nothing to get in the way, exactly like you'd want for a quick note. This widget alone is worth having Konfabularor on your machine. My only issue with this terrific widget is that it defaults to text size (a bit small) despite my setting a new default. Everytime I launch the widget, it reverts back to the old default text size, instead of the new one I set. So I have to reset it each time it launches, which is a bit of an annoyance. (Mac OS 10.3.9). Other than that minor issue, this widget is the

It looks great but I have Windows XP SP2 and it doesn't work. The properties menu only have the Window settings, I suggest the same as "wu haa": -Resizeable and changeable font -Add-on paper -Changeable background colour and opacity -Fixed margin
I cannot write on it, I guess I have to type some special command, I tried the one you wrote but still does not work. I know it does what it was meant for, but maybe only on a mac. Besides, the upgrades above are not quite a headache to add, or are they? Cheers.

Sorry about the confusion regarding hotkeys. Command-space speaks. Command-enter runs terminal commands, & inserts their text output right after your command. I chose those key combinations because I figured no system functions were mapped to them.
I didn't really consider those with bad sight. Clear background & small text just looked good to me. As others have said, you can edit the kon file to increase the font size, & replace the background image to change the background.
Xomorf had a great idea to save the text when you move the mouse away. I don't know why I didn't add that code myself, but then I also don't know why I can do Calculus and still confuse right and left. ;-)
I don't know how these widgets are tested for compatibility. I made it on a Mac before Konfabulator worked with Windoze, so I have no idea how it works on those machines. I have Konfabulator 2.0 for Mac & Paper still works.

I modified mine to save regularly on mouseExit and to display correctly using the "simple background" of Konspose. Open paper.widget in WinZip and edit Paper.kon as follows. Change the textarea tag to the below and remove the "<image ... />" tag for imgBkgrd. Edit onLoad.js and remove the two lines that resize imgBkgrd. Update these files in the paper.widget zip file, close paper, then reload paper.widget. Happy editing!!
Note, you can also change the size=12 to a larger font size. Also, change the color tag below to whatever text color you want. See the textarea section in http://www.konfabulator.com/workshop/Konfabulator_Reference_1.8.3.pdf for more details.
<textarea name="txtNote" editable=1 scrollbar=0 width=1 height=1 hOffset=1 vOffset=1 size=12 spellcheck=1 bgOpacity=128 bgColor=#404040 onKeyDown="setNote();" > <color>#FFFFFF</color> <font>Arial</font> <onMouseExit>savePreferences(); </onMouseExit> </textarea>

This widget ROCKS! I'ts EXACTLY what I needed all along.
I used to have the sides of my monitor and desk filled with stick notes, now it's all on the desktop in a clean, simple, non-distracting interface.
GREAT JOB (most useful widget I used yet!)
One improvement would be to have an option to stop the 'read-out-loud' half way through (it seems that once it starts reading you can't do much about it, and if you actually hav some lengthy text in there it's a pain)

Guys, it's a piece of cake to hack this.
Ctrl-click it in the Finder, go into Contents, then drag Paper.kon to TextEdit.
Then go down to the <textarea> tag, and change [font=8] to at least 12 or 14. Then add [font="your favourite font"] (with the "") making sure to leave a space on either side of it.
Save the document, quit TextEdit and reload it.
There you go.
Best wishes, R¡n6+@|L

Great widget, but I wish it would save automatically instead of at reset. I've had a couple of, uhh, unanticipated resets (lock ups) and lost what I had typed in there. Also, thanks for the undocumented feature of CMD+SPC. It was driving me batty until I came back here and saw that it was *supposed* to do that. :-)

I give a three since I can't give a 2.5. I like the concept it works great but the opacity needs to be turned up more. I use my widgets on the konfab layer only so I need it to stand out so I can see it. It also needs font size adjustment. There is also a bug when you move it on the konfab level. You have to push f8 to reset the window before you can move it again after you've move it once.
