Comments for Winamp Remote

I use this one with QCD and found it great with a problem with the sound volume that upsets me. When I start it, the wave volume in windows mixer is up to max and I just can't set the volume using ths slider on winamp remote: as soon as I release the slider, the volume goes up boom again to max.... ????
Any idea?

It's a cool widget. I just have some requests in mind: -it would be just great if the widget had a right-click menu item "Rate the now playing song***** (etc)" -abilit to make the widget smaller -also an adjustable transparency level would be nice. That's of course personal. The widget is great anyway!

I love the widget, it does exactly what I want it to do, but it seems like after I've left it and WinAmp running for a long period of time, the remote widget starts to command more than 100 MB worth of RAM. Is this an isolated case?

I LOVE THIS! This widget is the greatest. I have been using it with Mediamonkey (www.mediamonkey.com) and it does everything I want it to. Just one problem... When I enabled the voice that tells you the song, I found that everytime I changed tracks the song volume went down to really quiet and when it goes back up it takes ages. Is there any way to stop the volume going down?

This design is very cool. I just have one problem. From time to time the power button on the widget doesn't open winamp and I would have to open winamp from the start menu. Is this a bug or something? and does anyone else have the same problem? 3/4 for me

Great work! Winamp is the best! This is a beautiful widget! Even though I use my keyboard hotkeys, this is another nice way to do it. Its got a great design and does what its suposed to do!

it's a great widget... my winamp takes up a ton of space the way I have it set up (with the dynamic library plugin open to display all my shows)... I have it running on desktop #4 (windows deskman powertoy)... so this thing lets me control winamp from the desktops I'm actually working on... but if I need to switch to another show or something like that, I can simply go to desktop 4 and change it quickly in full size winamp.
if it had a playlist pop-out thing it would be even better, but as it is it is still a great widget for my desktop.

I second pixelbath! Whats the point of this Widget? It loads Winamp! Yes it looks lovly (top marks for design) but i've seen the same skin/clone and have used better! This widget does'nt add value... PLUS it take up Memory.

Actualy it doesnt even need to be a "winamp" widget. All it needs to do is be able to play MP3's in the background, while winamp could be playing another audio stream at the same time. The most important addition would be to be able to browse the 'My Music' folder from the widget.

You can set winamp that it isnt shown in the tast or the tray, so if you minimze it you don't see it anymore...if you than use the widget you only see the widget!

I agree with "dan" down there. It would be nice if this widget didn't need to have winamp actually running, it sorta defeats the purpose of having the widget in the first place with winamp running in the taskbar too.

This is a great idea and design. I have a few suggestions: 1. have a button that allows you to browse the 'My Music' folder. 2. have a drop down window to view playlists. 3 is it possible to play music with this widget without actualy opening winamp? if so it would be great just to have this widget running and not the winamp application as well.

i like it. the one thing that bugs me is that damn popup you get when you turn the power off, the popup says "Are you sure you want to close Winamp?" is that really necessary. Anyway to take it out? Amer Tahir, what would i edit in the code to take out the popup?

Call me a cynic, but I just don't see the point. You can skin Winamp to make it look just like this widget, and control it with hotkeys, and it will work exactly the same. Winamp also has those features that people keep requesting already built into it (Media Library, Playlist Editor, etc.). And it already has...you know...controls.
I'm not bashing the widget, I'm just not sure why you'd bother.

do i necessarily need to run winamp if i want to use this widget? wats the COM thing? does this COM thing allows me to play with this widget without running winamp at the same time?

Hey, can you help me? I'm looking to do something similar, only I want to write a sort of bridge so I can use COM in the widget to access a COM interface I make which will in turn access the Windows API.

A good one - nice design and overall impresion. It's not true that it requires winamp 3 and above. It works fine with winamp 2.9x. I do have a problem with it, however. It seems to change the volume in winamp from time to time to a very low value when switching to next song. You could fix that ;) Cheers

@wolf68k about the time display thing, it's not a bug but it's made to behave like that. actually, when the track time (whether elapsed or remaining) exceeds 60 minutes, the display format changes from minutes:seconds to hours:minutes, which i saw on Windows Media Player. also that the time values are displayed in 2-digit-form (mm:ss or hh:mm) so i thought changing display would avoid the problem (100 minutes shown 10:00) which arises when minutes value exceeds 99.

I wouldn't mind seeing it a bit smaller, or have an option for large (the current size) or small (about 50%).
Also there is a problem when playing MP3s that are over 60mins long. I played one that was 78:18 (min:sec) but the remainning time stayed at 01:18 for a long too, also on the elapse time it got 60mins then changed to 01:00 and stayed there
@Deacon You're right WinAmp can do that, personally I don't like that much. It's too small for me.

...what exactly is the point of running a widget to control Winamp when Winamp can be controlled directly as though it were a "topmost" widget already?

I have'nt downloaded this yet.. but I am interested in using it.. however.. a few questions.. I broadcast web radio using Winamp and the SHOUTcast streaming audio server.. concerned if this would create any conflicts with that.. And...after reading the board here.. I guess waiting for the next version would probably be a good idea? interested in what the developer has to say on this subject...

Awesome widget. However, when I upgraded to Konfabulator 2.1.1, the song text stopped scrolling in the widget. I checked the options, but they were all correct. I tryed turning the text scrolling off and then turning it back on again, but that didn't fix it. I also tryed closing the widget and opening it again and restarting Konfabulator, but neither fixed the problem.

seriously, a very well done widget, and very usefull and helpful one, too. i've always wanted a widget to control winamp like the many that control itunes, and this one delivers.
a must download for konfabulator + winamp users.

Was working fine. Then, when I started the widget today, only the control circle on the left shows up. The song information section on the right (the major portion of the widget) is just missing.

Seahorse, it does launch winamp, the buton is just to the left of stop. at least if it's Winamp5...

Very nice BUT:
It doesn't launch Winamp, you have to do that separatetly. You can't load new song/playlists from it.
Any chance of incorpoarting both of these?

fredyboy10's comment was removed because the huge URL made the page stretch out far too much.
The gist of it, for anyone who didn't see it, was that he had hacked album art into the Widget and was showing off a picture of it.

Did you know this controls Foobar2000 as well? The only glitch is the play/pause not working correctly, in that it does pause but when you push play again it restarts the song instaed of continuing. Good Work.. Keep it up :)

Not having an Apple, I didn't recognize the original inspiration, my apologies.
However, is there some code of conduct for these comments, as my previous question about the originality was removed? I didn't think it was that bad...

thanx Ricky...
and for those who still think that this widget's skin is a rip-off, it's original and yes it's *inspired* by the iTunes Remote © Apple, but it's not a rip-off. The design is similar to Apple's remote just like Internet Explorer is similar to Mozilla Firefox.
i hope now there won't be any rip-off complaints popping up, proving to be good for nothing.

This does not constitute an art rip. DashAmp v.2 is more of a copy of Apple's iTunes Remote Widget than this is a copy of DashAmp v.2.
Besides that, this Widget does not use any images from that Winamp skin. Generally we only remove Widgets that use images *directly* taken from other works. Comment removed.
I've also removed chinese boy's comment as it was wrecking the page layout.

Brilliant, I've been looking for this widget for ages, and you've done a superb job of it.
If I may be so brazen as to suggest future features... I'd love to see drag-and-drop to add/replace the winamp playlist, buttons for the media library/winamp playlist window, and automatic minimising of the winamp window on loading of this widget. And maybe a button to minimise/restore winamp? Hope I'm not asking too much. :) And maybe a mini skin for it too... I should get busy and hack your code myself, but I'm too busy with other things.

Very nice. I've been waiting a while for a Winamp controller for Konfabulator, but, sadly this one seems to be missing the one feature that I needed it to have, a button to open new songs/playlists! Add that and it's a 4/4.
