Fancy Goldfish
EvanP

Watch the little fish swim around your screen.

I wanted to play with the Konfabulator API, and this is the result.
It took about an hour for coding/debugging and an hour to mess about with the (less than perfect) images.

Enjoy!

Fun widget that works well. Love to see you do an aquarium.

Looks pretty good to me! I like it! Definitely can't do better myself...lol This is going to be a pleasant, relaxing effect to my desktop. I like the effect of "screensaver" without having to lose my desktop or other work. Thanks to you for your time & efforts.

You CAN have as many as you want! Just copy the original widget onto your clipboard, paste it in a different location, changing the name. (I just added 2,3, etc) and the copy paste them back into your widgets folder and VOILA! You can have as many as you like.

I like this widget very much, I love fish swimming around my desk top with a beautiful underwater back ground but I would love to have a variety of differen't kinds of fish swimming arround on my desk Top,if you could make it so we can have multiple fish swimming arround on the desk top that would be great, I tried to run more than one incedent of this widget but it did not work, can anyone tell me how to do that?

The lack of smoothness in this widget's movement is due to the images. I grabbed the best 12 frames from a movie I found on the web. If you have a smoother movie of a fish I'd be willing to redo this widget.
I'd need the following:
A few frames each: left facing, right facing, turning away from the viewer, turning toward the viewer.
All frames need to be on a consistently colored background, so that I can easily remove the background. Plus this tends to give even coloring to the subject, so for instance it's not blueish in some frames and redish in other frames.
The subject needs to be at nearly the same distance from the camera in all frames (so it doesn't get bigger or smaller).
AVI format is good, but anything that I can easily convert to individual frames is OK.
About 128x128 pixels is ideal, but if I get something bigger, I can resize it down as needed.
My favorites are fancy goldfish, but if the images are really nice I might be willing to implem

hey guys how do i make it work???

I think that you should push it just a little bit more with the fish. The graphics need some help, the fish it's self too. You should make different types of fish like tropical. ect.

ill be waiting

Great little fishie, maybe you could improve the image a little and maybe add more fish to choose from in an upgrade? :o) Thumbs up from me!

I love this fish. I just wish there were others like it so all my fish didnt look the same. I have 4 of the same fish swimming around my desktop. I call them Twitchy, Spaz, Glitch, and Skitzo. tweaked I their personalities to fit their names.

hey EvanP, my fancy goldfish died yesterday due to bad graphics and it lost its gold color!

This is fun. I set a picture of a shark tank as my background, and the goldfish swimming around is quite comical.

What a great idea! The image quality could be better, but I think the fish is adorable! I would love to be able to add more fish, of different types. like the last person said, an entire aquarium would be ideal. How about some siamese fighting fish? This widget has so much potential!

This is my favorite widget! I would love if this widget was enhanced even further. A more smoothly animated fish would be great. Also, it would be great if more fish could be added in and switched on or off at the user's choice. Ideally, one could have a whole aquarium of fish swimming on one's desktop. This is a small start to a great idea and I hope either the author, or someone else picks this up and runs with it.

I love the concept. I really hate the animation. Sorry, I'm just being honest. I've tried changing the settings around, and some look better than others, but it's just too hard too look at. I will check for updates. Look around on some 3D animator websites and see if someone will do a fish animation for/with you.

Sascha - July 25, 2005
Awsome work! Maybe a little touchup in the animations...? Anyway, I'd love to see more of these! :-)

Nikhil - July 25, 2005
Good one. .m working to make it smoother.

Don - June 15, 2005
I'd recommend a new animation. A smoother one.
I like the idea of a fish swimming though.

i take it this is only the first version. i like it. he's calming and cute. i'm still playing with the settings, but his movements are usually a little jerky, especially when he moves to the right... not enough image steps? i hope that can be minimized.

Chriss - May 19, 2005
