Comments for Currency Converter

Thank you for making currency conversion easier through konfabulator. 2 comments though. It would be good to be able to type in the amount you want to convert directly onto the widget without the popup menu and if you could do forward & back conversions - ie be able to change the top and bottom values independently & not just the top one. Also there is no flag for the Euro, may I prehaps suggest the flag for the European Union (http://europa.eu/images/hp/flag_eu.gif) Thanks again

Thanks Larry. Glad you liked it too. Now regarding your issue, having input boxes on the widget loses the elegance of the widget and so I didnot in the first place. Let me see if I can come up with a pop up to change all attributes at once. It may take a while since I am very busy now. Hope you will understand.

I love this widget. It does almost everything that I want it to do. I bid for a lot of items from around the world on eBay, mostly British pound, some Euro, and Australian dollar. The only problem that I have though is that when I’m under pressure from the clock and I’m trying to make a quick calculation, I find that it’s difficult to select the 'From Currency Amount', 'From Country' or 'To Country' values.
I think that a better option would be a single input option with enough real-estate so as not to be so hard to select.

Thanks. All working now. And I found I wasn't using the latest version of the widget - my apologies.

Michael, It works fine with me on 3.1.1 win xp sp2. Could you please try renaming the widget and loading it? Lets see if that helps.

Hi Shyam,
Having some problems using this widget with the latest 3.1.1 widget engine release. During system boot up, the widget says that it cannot load. However I can load the widget manually by selecting it in the widgets directory. Rebooting the PC gives the same error.
Cheers, Michael

cschenk, I am not a MAC user myself but if you can get to preferences of Yahoo! Widget Engine, you will see an option to 'open widget'. Just browse to the location where you have downloaded the widget and select it. You should be able to see the widget running. Sorry If I was not of much help.

pixel, thanks for your feedback. Regarding saying "NaN/NaN", the widget just runs on english number format i.e. "." as decimal point. So please try out 0.99 or 15.48. It should work. Regarding switching between currencies, I think for this case, Multi Currency Converter is more suitable. Set one line item for "US-$ to EUR" and another for "EUR to US-$". Check out my other widgets for this. This widget is mainly for tracking single currency one way. As you can see, there are many features like last 5, lowest/highest/low/high indicator. If we give flexibility like switching,etc.. all these features will become void. Finally, if we use text box on widget, you must make textbox border explicit, which will take away classy look of the widget. So avoided that. Hope you agree with me.

it seams that i can't enter decimal numbers, like 0,99 or 15,48. it says "NaN/NaN". :-(
and i would like to see a button to switch the currency like US-$ to EUR, and with a click on the button it converts EUR to US-$. and maybe you could either integrate the textfield for the amount into the widget's surface instead of an pop-up, or directly focus the textfield in the pop-up and enable "enter" to submit. just hit and go, you know. than it's perfect.

BonneSwe, I chose this size on purpose. Will be adding more features and fill up the space. If you want a compact widget, click on 'More Widgets' link on this page and download 'Multi Currency Converter'. Select just one line item and I hope it will meet your requirements. I will be adding 'hide header/footer' option soon which will make the widget even smaller.

Thanks soul. Much much appreciated. Time info length varies depending on timezone and format. I just got an idea of centering it. Will fix the last alignment issue, try to add more features and release v1.9 soon. Thanks again for your feedback and time.

Thanks Bryan. I appreciate your feedback. Just rolled out v1.8. Its got another indicator to indicate highest/lowest value comparing last 5 values the widget recorded. Widget also has a version checker meaning if any version is released after v1.8, user will be alerted about it. After this I hope no one has to keep checking the gallery every one and then for updates. And lastly I think, I have resolved cross OS alignment issues. I am sure soul will get back to me regarding this. :)

Thanks again soul for your feedback and testing. Was actually waiting for your reply. I re-wrote the script to handle alignment on MAC OS as it used to do in V 1.5. I think its an issue with Konfab. In future I will switch to left alignment which is what is used on most of the widgets.
Thanks Pop-Pop. Glad you liked it.

Thanks Joeb. I purposely designed the wigdet to this size as I didnot want it to be small, compact and difficult to read. I will use the blank space effectively with more features (not immediately though). I designed multi-converter just the way you wanted (conversions horizontal rather than vertical). Hope that will please use.

This is sweet!
I can't wait to see the multi-converter.
But for the single currency model, it would be great if the widget was much smaller. Optionally losing the header and footers and maybe taking the conversion horizontal instead of vertical. But it's a wonderful widget, thank you!

great widget but i'm having trouble getting it to do what i think it's supposed to do. if i put $24.95 into the first country (usa), shouldn't the second country (canada) readout be the canadian exchange in canadian dollars? it says 1.21930 (maybe the exchange rate?). that's probably what $1.00 would be ... but not $24.95. Thanx!

Kotatsu Neko, A have developed another widget (Multi currency converter) which does exactly as you wanted. If approved, it should be available coming sunday. New/updated widgets are rolled out every sunday by the Konfabulator team.
M, This widget was designed to keep track of single currency. If you want to track various currencies on the fly, there is link to www.oanda.com on the widget. I think its much easier from the site. Regarding cosmetic issues, most of us see the widget as shown on the screenshot. May be a compatibility issue. Please check konfabulators requirements.

Great work! Bravo! One more thing though! There are NEW version of the currency for Turkey and Romania. In Oanda these are available but not in the dropdown list of the widget. Maybe you can add it (v 1.5? :-). Cheers!

This is off to a good start. Could you please add a box to enter values on the fly, without having to go into the preferences? It'd be more convenient checking prices while shopping or travelling. By the way, the widget displays its name as "rrency Converter" on both of my PCs-- the background image looks to be off-center.

Really nice work, and would be even nicer if I could display multiple currencies at the same time. One source to convert from, then as many as I like to convert to.
Would be really useful!

Thank you guys(Tsaxman28 and matsusaka) for your feedback. The bug is fixed now (release 1.5) and am waiting for Konfabulalor team to open up 'Widget Submission' again. Currently its disabled. I have added another option(rounding off converted value). Hope its of some use.

Doesn't work when entering a currency amount other than 1. I tried to see how much 240 Euros was in US Dollars and it came up 1.20600. If only that were true.
