The only perfect multi rss-reader that I could find. Displays multiple rss feeds with the latest additions on top. No clicking from one feed to the other: they are all neatly displayed. Great job, really needed this one! :-)

Jon - Open in new window is dependent on your browser - not the widget.
In Firefox: Tools, Options, tabs, open links from other applicactions in a new window
in IE7: Tools, Internet Options, general, Tabs, Settings, open links from other programs in a new window.

Awesome tool! Best I ever seen! Good work Dan!
By the way, I may suggest some improvements:
http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/fwc.rss Shows !CDATA in the title.
http://rss.crash.net/crash_6.xml says "New Items have no date"
But afterall I'm very satisfied!

Tried all the custom rss readers on this site and this is best reader i could find... agree with mike bout saving space... would be useful to have option to remove things like time-stamp (perhaps change to number of hours/days old), option to not dislay where rss is from on left.

I love this widget, and have used it since ver. 1.1. I've had a problem since ver. 1.1.3, though: I'm using it with The Register and Reuters without problems, but my local tabloid newspaper has been showing the "Invalid Date" error - perhaps you can fix it? Very nice widget. Could we get the options to increase the font size to more than 14 (arbitrary values would be nice). Also, I'd really like the option to be able to leave off all the extra frills to save space, like the plus and minus buttons on the top, and especially the time stamp on the right. The time stamp just looks horrible on larger fonts since it doesn't even all fit entirely in the non-adjustable space, but really I'd love to be able to just get rid of it..

First of all thanks for all the comments and special thanks to the people who have made donations to charity at http://www.justgiving.com/widgets Please note that I do not receive any of this money: it all goes to the charity. This has inspired me to make some fixes/updates to Combarss - more donations will have the same effect in the future!

N7DR - OK here it finally is with fixed timezone handling and some other fixes.

Turtle - I had a look at the feed (http://www.01net.com/rss/actus.xml) and it seems OK now: let me know ifyou still see problems.

miso - negative column widths handled in 1.1.4

Jakob - it works with some foreign language feeds e.g. http://www.svd.se/articleexport/rss20/svd_top.xml Can you provide an example of a failing feed?

Better skins are on the list but will take some time to implement - some donations could help speed up the process ;-)

I will think about if grouping by feed and limiting items from a feed can be implemented within the current

Dan, are you still working on this widget, and do you plan to release 1.1.4? It seems like you haven't commented on anything here for about 10 weeks, and I'm wondering if you've got fed up and stopped monitoring here.

Thank you again !

Do you know when you are likely to be able to release 1.1.4? You kindly fixed (on the same day!) a bug that I reported on Aug 13, but I have been waiting since then for the fixed version to be released.

Can anybody help me? I wanted to narrow the left bar with the source and I narrowed it too much and now not only can't I see the source at all, but also first couple of letter from the titles are missing. Since I don't see the bar anymore, I cannot move it back. I tried to delete the widget and download it again, but the settings are stored at some other place and so it loads back with this settings. How can I restore this?

Jakob - September 17, 2005
I really like this widget, but I have noticed a problem which when solved would move it from good to great:
The newsfeed works fine as long as the text only uses English characters. I live in Denmark, and we use three special characters: æ, ø and å. When these are displayed they look like complete gibberish. For instance æ turns into Ä| and å turns into Ä¥. It is most likely connected to the character encoding.

Is this something you plan to fix?

Hi Dan! Great RSS reader widget I have seen so far! Love the ability to use customised feeds. One suggestion though, grouping news items by source rather than time released? It would make it easier to read. Say, if I want see the latest sports news, I just zoom to a particular section of the widget.

Excellent.

Refreshes very well and like the ability to add your own rss feeds.
Combining news feeds is also a big plus

Very nice widgets and the good thing is that you have many RSS feeds you can select from. I like this widgets so much. The only thing agains it is the skin. It looks horrible against my other widgets hat hold Mac skin style. I am looking forward for addking skin support.

Good Work

Would be nice if you could adjust the timing of how long it takes to autoscroll a headline. Takes too long by default (and unchangeable)

Another things would be the option to show only a certain amount of feeds from a source on the screen at a time, because I find google tends to hog a lot of space. So maybe an option to set it to show max of 5 of the newest stories per feed? Something like that

Nathan - the 5s tooltip display time is a Konfabulator restriction and so I can do nothing about it :-(

Thanks for the great work! My feature request:

Currently: Tooltips time out after a while and close.
My request: Keep tooltips up until the mouse moves.

The reason for this request is that I sometimes just like to read the text in the tooltip rather than clicking on the link. Sometimes the tooltip closes before I can read the entire text within it (e.g. long slashdot posts).

The date/time ordering doesn't seem to work properly according to RFC 822. I have two news feeds, one in GMT (the BBC) and one in MDT, but the widget seems to treat them both the same, so that a posting with a pubDate value of 10:00 MDT appears to be before one with a value of 11:00 GMT.

PK - I think the konspose issue is a bug with konfabulator. Click back on combarss to let it appear in Konspose. If you try it with other widgets that open URLs (like the weather) they seem to behave the same.

Corey, Johnx, jazzman - the unterminated string problem should be fixed in the next release. I can't reproduce it here though so I guess it must be feed specific.

Rusty - You can change the source column width to zero. I am also planning to implement a way of changing the date column width in the future.

Ron - you can currently choose between MM/DD DD/MM and full date format in preferences. What more would you want? Do you mean more space between the rows?

Chris - heise doesn't supply the date so it's stories won't appear.

I really like this widget!!! Now I can get the feeds I want right on top on Internet Explorer. About the only thing I'd like to be able to change is the date/time format. I'd like to see a little more space between them and the option to select the date/time format.

Bettur Grafix - unfortunately I am more of a programmer than graphics person so the images suck. I am thinking of making it skinnable and would love it is someone would send me some graphics they have made that I can use.

Brooks - Can you give an example of a real URL that it fails with. I guess it is to do with the ? character but need something to test it with. If you don't want to post it on here you can e-mail me at www.pidcock.co.uk/email.html

Changing the number of stories is something I want to put in the next version. I am thinking of something dynamic with + and - buttons on the status bar to increase/decrease the number of lines.

Gail - Does it give an error or just do nothing?

I'm not a fan of the "handle" bar - especially its color, but that's not really important. This apparently can't grab rss feeds that are like: http://www.domain.com/rss.php?user=fred

That's a bummer.

But the rest is cool.

Having combined RSS is great, thanks Dan.

It would be nice if you could control the number of lines shown, as 10 isn't enough if you have more than a few feeds selected. Width control would also be nice.

Brian,

It only gives the message once, so you just click no and it won't appear again.

The headline is dated so it will disappear as soon as you have 10 more recent headlines.

also comes with a plea for some charity in Scotland every third time you click on a news story. Sorry I gave at the office... If you want to use the widget you have to click no I don't want to give because I hate children... real nice!

Also the author has a headline on the banner that stay on forever asking for money. The other newsfeed widgets are much less tacky.
