YWE 4 has changed the process model so this wil no longer work.
To fix this will require quite a bit of programming effort so I'm afraid I can't see this working with YWE 4 in the near future.

Billy,

No it is developed especially for yahoo desktop widgets. I am not familiar with google gadgets but if they are javascript that runs in the browser it may be possible to use the following leak detector along with firefox to see if they are leaking: http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/memusage.html#help-leakdetector

Widget watcher 1.2 works fine for me with YWE 3.1.4 on Windows XP Pro.
Can those with problems try 1.2. at http://www.pidcock.co.uk/widgets/index.html.

If that doesn't work please report your operating system version.

Please update!
Thanx!

Works great, but it doesn't show my widget if Debug mode is on. As soon as I turn my widget's debug mode to off and reload it, it shows up in Widget Watcher. Can this be fixed?

I like this widget. Suggestion for enhancement: an optinal peak memory column.

Great App! I am kinda new to these widgets but do have a question - how can you tell if the widget listed is a runaway? I have several widgets in the watch window but cannot tell if they are runaway or dead. Is there a parm in most widgets that state acceptable memory usage?

I too have a lot of my widgets not showing up in the list... because they are set to 'below' display. Do you have a timeframe that you are aiming for, to have this fixed??? I LOVE this tool, but most of my widgets don't show up!! THANKS

If I could sort by memory usage, it would be top notch, still very useful though, thx.

This has saved me a couple of times when a bad widget runs out of control and starts grabbing memory. Previously I'd restart Konfabulator without knowing which widget was killing my machine. With Widget Watcher I was able to find out which widget was running crazy and kill it without bringing down all of Konfabulator. Once I knew which widget was bad I could search for a replacement.

A few minor enhancement requests... if something bigger and better comes up, that's fine. I'm happy with the tool as-is. These are just ideas:
1. Click on the column headers to sort de/ascending.
2. Ability to detect the size of Widget Watcher relative to screen position. (That way I can have this on the bottom of the screen and new widgets don't push the list beyond the edge of the screen.)
3. Hide the icons when inactive.
4. CPU usage.

Overall, good job.

Scott - When the widget level is set to below the widget name is no longer available in the process list so I don't think there is any way of showing these widgets.

Adam M & jhb - What Operating System and version of Konfaulator are you running? Can you send me a full output via http://www2.konfabulator.com/forums/index.php?showuser=6609

Dan, yes, I have some of my widgets set to 'Below' (and others to 'Konspose Only'). Is the inability to detect those a permanent restriction ... or might this be possible in a future release?
Thanks, Scott

A great idea, but I can't get it to work. I get an error message that says, "Unable to find running widgets. Output from ktlist:" followed by several lines of numeric codes, each ending in "Konfabulator.exe".

Scott,

Do you have your widgets window level set to below? If so they cannot be detected in this mode. If not then can you enable debug mode and send me the output via http://www2.konfabulator.com/forums/index.php?act=Mail&CODE=00&MID=6609

Dan, this looks like it could be a great tool. But on my system (W2K), most of the time it only lists the Widget Watcher. Occasionally the list expands to show all my active widgets (going into Konspose mode seems to help make this happen), but then the list shrinks down to show only WW again. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to adjust the preferences?
Thanks, Scott

Next release will not need tasklist so should work on XP Home and 2K.

Ghostwalker - are you running on XP Home?

Ricky - strange that it worked for you. I guess tasklist must have got on the system somehow.

Julian - OK mem alignment and title text color done. Widgets that are set to below as they lose their window titles so I think that it will not be possible to watch them.

THM - I coded it so it works with . or , so I'm surprised it doesn't work. I just tried it with English XP and German regional settings and it's OK. Do you have tasklist.exe in WindowsSystem32?

THM - July 11, 2005
Doesnt show any text on WindowsXP Pro (localized German) but the number of lines appears to reflect the number of widgets running correctly.

Julian Searle - July 11, 2005
... I've also just discovered that when a widget is sel velevl "below", it's window title is listed as "N/A". Perhaps you could check the window title field returned by tasklist, and deal with the ones not starting with "Konfabulator-" instead of them just being blank lines (no background - no pid - no memory)

Julian Searle - July 11, 2005
Could you consider the next release having the content of the "Memory" fields right-alignes as opposed to the current left-alignment as it makes reading the numbers easyer. Also the possibilit of a different font color/ a background to the headings on the top as they just dissapear on light backgrounds.

Ok, I did what you said danio and downloaded tasklist.exe and placed it in my c:windowssystem32 folder and now the widget works perfect on my WinXP Home Edition SP2.

If you use XP Home edition you will need to do the same as I did. Here is a good place that explains it and gives you download links.

Wow, that's too bad it won't run on XP Home with SP2. A lot of people have Home edition and that's really limiting. I think this is a great widget and I am really interested in having this one. I hope you can find a fix for this.

Danio,

That's odd, because I tested on XP Home edition and I didn't run into any problems. I don't recall installing tasklist.exe prior.

Unfortunately this will only work on XP Pro - not XP Home. I didn't realise when uploading but only XP pro includes tasklist.exe.

It is possible to download tasklist.exe from the web - do a google search but I'm not sure about legal issues. I will look into alternatives...
