Sudoku Helper
Ran Chen

Use this Widget as a helper for solving Sudoku puzzles.

When clicking a board cell, an digit pad appears. Click a digit to set the cell's value. All other rows, columns and cells will be set accordingly.

1.0
First version at all.
This Widget was converted from a Java Applet found on www.SuDoHelper.com
(looks nicer though)
1.1:
- Minor bug fix on checking block valid values (it seems that JavaScript is not a big fan of recursive functions)
- Moved Undo button to right
- Changed all "onMouseUp" to "onMouseDown"
- New button "Clear"
- New board.png and digit_pad.png images
- Check for version updates on startup

1.1.1
- Fixed digit pad and buttons location
- Added close digit pad button

This is a great tool for someone who is learning sudoku - I have a couple of feature suggestions:
1. A way to "bookmark" a puzzle at a certain point where you are confident in your logic, and undo to that point (perhaps with a color change for 'solved' squares - to distinguish them from new work).
2. A way to "remove" a number from the 'suggestion' grid for a single square (for instance, I know a 5 cannot be a choice in a certain square, but I have not placed the 5 in that square's row or column or box yet, I just want to hide it from my view while I am strategizing).
Thanks again for the lovely looking and handy teaching tool

Works beautifully. Not sure that it doesn't defeat the purpose of the game, but then that is better than the game defeating me.

Checkout <a href="http://www.printsudoku.com">Printsudoku.com</a>. It's a new website where you can find lots of sudokus in pdf format, and also you can play online. There is also Magic Sudokus. This site rocks!

Put confirmation on the clear button. I accidentally clicked too close to it while working a puzzle and it got zapped. Thanks.

This should be banned and immediately removed from this site! Can do some puzzles in seconds with this, nothing has defeated more than a few minutes.
Now, where was that prize puzzle.........................

I noticed that the grid has icons behind it. I just wanted to let you know in case you'd like to remove them.

If things were a tiny bit more accurate, it would be fantastic! the fit and finish are lovely, but i second the opinion that clicking on a square doesn't always highlight the square you want. also, could you maybe make it clearer that a puzzle has been solved, maybe by making all the numbers go green?
other than that, it's highly useful.

Nice start.

The clickable zones don't seem to quite match the grid, i.e. when I click a square nd pick a number the number sometimes appears in the square below, never goes beside or above, just below.

It would be nice if you could change an already selected number so you don't have to undo - sometimes my mistake might be several moves back.
