PowerMate MailPulse
Kevin Kohn

Checks Mail.app for unread email every specified number of seconds. When you have unread mail, your Griffin PowerMate will pulse depending on how many unread emails are in your inbox(s) until all new mail has been read. Then the LED will return to its default glow.

NOTE: If you don't have a Griffin PowerMate, you won't notice anything happening.

Based on Drew Perry's original Widget code.

Added Note in code to original author of previous version.

I have been working on a Dashboard version of this widget and havent had time to look at the Konfabulator Version in awhile. I dont think i will be doing a windows version any time soon.

The Dashboard version is basically complete and working great, if not better then the Konfabulator version.

This is a great widget, and I wish there was one available for Windows XP, I currently use my PowerMate on my PowerBook G4 as well as in my Windows based PC. So I tend to switch my PowerMate back and forth between the two quite often, and would love my PowerMate to pulsate when I get email on my PC. I'm sure there are a few people here who would be ecstatic to see a XP version available. Thanks.

I have submitted an update that reflects Drew Perrys work on original code. This note was in the first version, and must have been lost during previous updates.

NOTE: This version includes the following enhancements of Drews Widget.
Customizable Pulse rates based on # of Emails. The more emails you have unread, the faster it will pulse.
Default Brightness settings
Customizable Scan rate for new emails
Better restore of Powermates original user settings.

I did a lot of work on this widget, for you to say its identical is just ridicules.

I have a Dashboard version of this widget completed... I will just focus on that.

No one is hiding the fact this is an extension of what I considered an unfinished widget.

This is kind of intriguing. As a fellow developer of PowerMate Widgets, I was curious as to how you chose to code the interface to the PowerMate. But the funniest thing is, when I opened the code inside your widget, it was my code, verbatim, cut and paste. Every widget developer here supports expansion and development on our work, but we do require that a notice be included that it is based on a previous work. I spent weeks working through betas and test versions and had many users test mine out. You just copied my code and added a few inputs from the user menu. To top it off, you removed the Entourage checking that mine already included. In the future, I'd recommend at least a mention to those you rip off.

I will certainly think about it. I was going to work on an outlook XP version, and as long as you can setup your outlook to check Gmail you should be all set.

Please make a Multi Playform (I'm a XP user) version that supports gmail either through gnotifier, gtalk or some inbuilt functionality! If you do i send you cookies! :)

I am looking to add a sleep mode as I did with the dashboard version of this widget I created. Hope you enjoy this first attempt at Widget development.
