World Viewer
Brent Johnson

This Widget is a more generic camera viewer. The Widget is shipped with camera files from around the world. When you first run the Widget it will ask you where you want to store the camera files. Once chosen it will copy the camera files shipped. To view cameras from another location, right-click (control-click on a Mac if you don't have a two button mouse) on the Widget and select "Change Location". Functionality includes a favorites list, favorites filtering, camera cycling, colored themes, a user defined color theme, camera "thumbnail" view, control bar hiding, and more.

It also allows you to convert other traffic cams that are based on C. Scott Gilbert's cam Widget. See the README.txt file for details.

Comments for World Viewer

This is my favorite widget. By the way, it also makes a great weather map/radar viewer.

Some requests if you still plan on updating

1) Lock the window size so that smaller cam images are enlarged
to fit the window instead of shrinking the window to fit the image size.

2) Add fade transitions between loads

3) Automatically skip webcams that are invalid

4) Allow us to change size of font for the CAM description

5) Allow option to hide the title bar at the top

Thanks

Cool widget... Looking forward to the web download service... Thanks Brent!

I'm getting back to updating my two main widgets (this one and the RSS Reader) in the coming weeks. If anyone has any feature requests let me know. The next update will actually allow you to download more cams from a web based service instead of having to add them manually.

Excellent widget. The XML cam lists work great. Hope it will continue to be developed and enhanced. Thanks.

Nice widget. The camera select links are a little touchy on my machine (Mac 10.3.9). I assume it is just how it is running on my computer, though. I love the concept of a universal cam viewer that I can customize with my own cameras. Suggestions for future versions:
1) more polished appearance.
2) make it easier to enter in one's own cameras of choice (i.e. a field in Widget Preferences to enter a camera URL rather than modifying an XML doc).

Thanks for making such a useful widget!

Jon: Sure will, they must have been recently added. Send me a direct email and I will send you the updated cam file asap and include it in the next release.

Brent, this app is great but I was wondering if you could update the South Charleston cams to include the cameras of the new Cooper River Bridge found here: http://www.dot.state.sc.us/getting/cams/CharlestonSCam.asp Get to it when you can, but lots of us here would love to see the cameras on the new bridge. Thanks again and great work.

Thanks for the feedback. Yep, I don't know XML, so I'm a bit out of luck, however your thought about 'adding a camera' is a welcome one. Maybe in your next release.

Cheers and great app!!!

Pat: I see, there *is* no existing KC widget. The importer is designed to import camera data from other widgets. If you'd like to see cameras for KC you can add your own "Kansas City.xml" file to the cameras directory. You'll need to know a little XML, but you can use one of the other camera files as a guide.

I'm also thinking of having a "Add New Camera" popup that'll allow you to specify the URL for the cam image and a description. This would allow someone to build their own cam file without having to know XML.

Pat: If you'd like to import the Kansas City cams you *should* just be able to download the KC widget, run it, and it should appear in the list in the conversion popup. Make sure you're running the KC widget from it's .widget file and not from a folder. Are you on a Mac for Windows platform?

The next version will allow you to drag a .widget file into the World Viewer to import.

scott: Thanks! Yeah using XML config file just seemed like a good idea.

Very nice, however I'm not sure how to import other cameras easily. For example... Kansas City is not listed and I'm not sure how to add cams (from the web) to the list.

Cheers and Great work. Maybe next release can have an easy importer.

Nice work. I actually had the exact same idea, down to the XML configs and everything after I made the columbus cam. :) Good job.
