the more i use this i like it --however the abilty to place one sticky on top of the other and have a way to click thru them without moving them apart seperately would be nice also -- can u have symbols too like check marks or stars added etc --thanks --looking forward to the next versions updates

just started using this and it appears to be really good ---however is it possible to make it so you can see the sticky in the side bar --even add or alter the sticky there instead of having to pull it onto the desktop ---- then we could create todo lists that sit on the side and work thru them over the course of the day--thanks great going

If it is the last note, that is done to ensure that there is always one note on the screen. Otherwise, there would be not reasonable way to create a new one unless you remembered the new stick keystrokes. If you know that keystrock or know how to get the preferences using the dock/menu, you can turn off "Auto Create Sticky" in the preferences / functions pane. Hope that helps!

With the new version, whenever I delete a sticky note, a new one appears. It's rather frustrating so I've reverted to an older version.

Nice, the feedback pages just truncate your comment instead of warning you first... Here's the last of what I was writing...
Also, I'm running a modified version of your stickies. I added some code that automatically hides all the stickies upon launching the widget. I didn't like how after a reboot stickies popped up everywhere and that I had to manually hit ctrl F7 everytime to hide them. If this is something you'd be interested in (possibly as a user preference), I'd be glad to send you the code. (Though I'm sure it would be VERY easy to just do yourself, as it didn't take me anytime at all).

Incredibly useful widget. I have two suggestions I'd love to see implemented:
1. When the text is longer than the sticky, I'd like to see the top of the text when the sticky looses focus. I dislike how stickies automatically show the bottom part of the text when focus is lost. (I usually make the first line of my stickies a title for easy identification).
2. I'd really like a way to toggle which stickies are visible and which are hidden... I tend to run my stickies as always hidden (ctrl + F7), and often I'll only have a couple that I've just created visible. If I could enter heads up mode, choose the handful of stickies I want to see, and then have the rest disappear when I leave heads up mode, that would be wonderful. (I'm certainly open to other solutions that might solve this minor annoyance...).
Also, I'm running a modified version of your stickies. I added some code that automatically hides all the stickies upon launching the widge

I love this widget. I haven't been able to find a really good notes program that works for me until now. The other programs always have too much extra junk that I never need & slows down the programs. This widget is so simple an yet does just enough to make it perfect for me. Thanks so much for the info to get rid of the thing that kept poping up. Thanks again. Great Widget.

donebylee: Seems there is a bug in the Yahoo engine with some kinds of textareas as this used to work all the time. You can resolve this for now by going to the widget preferences and enabling "Stickies Always Editable" and that should allow you to use the standard paste command to paste things in.

baoketian: They are stored in your Widget data folder which is on your computer system and is OS dependent as well as Yahoo Engine version dependent. On the windows side, you can just right click the widget and do "Open Widget Data Folder". Unfortunately, on the Mac side, there is an issue with that so you can do a spotlight search for a folder that contains the string "JC Sticky" and that should get you there.

This is a sweet piece of code. I leave it on my desktop for quick pastes, notes, reminders and other housekeeping tasks. It scrolls nicely allowing you to keep adding items, you can make it almost invisible and clicking the top portion minimizes it on the desktop. Very stable, has not crashed yet - better than other pieces of code. I actually hide it under Retrograde 3 - a very cool clock. Check it out is all I can say. The company seems pretty cool too. And yeah, they use my initials for their product.

awesome widget!
there is a bug on the shortcut key. when it it pressed it auto adds a post it note.
Also when I hit my widgets shortcut key some post it notes appear hidden, even after I set the setting to be on the topmost layer.
Pretty fine job otherwise. I've always loved my 3M Post It Notes.
Also would love to see an easier way to close or delete a post it note. maybe on rollover show an X to close so the post it is always visually very clean.
just some ideas to through out there!

Have a question. The notes keep disappearing every time I shut down the engine. And I'm using them in heads up display. I know there's the option of 'show all widgets now', but it's really unaccessible. Could you make some sort of a button to display all widgets, to hide 'em all, to make a new one. This small panel would be greatly appreciated and it would increase productivity.

I've used a couple different sticky widgets in the past, and they were good. They did what they were supposed to do.
However, it wasn't until I tried this particular sticky widget did I acquire the insatiable urge to start leaving myself notes for no apparent reasons. It's like I want to open it up just to write something, anything, it doesn't matter (LoL).
No seriously, this is the BEST widget of its kind! Loaded with options galore, it qualifies as the most versatile sticky I've used to date. Works perfectly on my Windows XP (SP2). I must say, "Hands down, this widget earns a well-deserved 4-Stars!"

Love the widget.
Noticed a minor bug - see if you can fix it when you have the cycles.
Bug: When you select a bold font, it doesn't stick i.e. it reverts to normal font at next restart.

Finally, a notes widget that doesn't have the "wrong font for new text" glitches that plague nearly every other widget of it's kind out there.
If I could give this 5 stars, I would.
I'm glad I finally found one that doesn't use the wrong fonts when I enter new text. I don't know if its because I'm using the Japanese IME to enter next, or if its something else, but as long as I keep the "Always Editable" option off, the glitches aren't there.
I'm mainly using it to keep a chart of hiragana and katakana on my desktop, and didn't have any issues at all.
I really like the ability to completely change the look of the notes as well.
There is just one thing I feel it is lacking, and that is scrollbars, but that's not really that big of a deal since you can have multiple notes anyway.

Anytime you have an unexpected shutdown of the system with open files (in this case notes that have not yet been saved), it would be possible to lose data. This is not unique to this widget but an overall issue with open files that are not saved. We will do some more testing and see if there is a way to help preven this without causing overdue stress on the system with autosaving after every key stroke.

More stable than the Post-It one which always deleted my stickies. Does that mean all my To Dos & work is gone too? If you can manage that that would be awesome! lol.

I really like this yellow sticky widget compared to some others. I have been looking additional functionality in a widget like this where I have the ability to change the font in parts of the note (maybe just strikethrough, underline, italics and bold would be good enough) for chosen text rather than the whole note Is there an easy way to do that? Just upgraded from 0.3B, its sooooo useful. I would like a pop-up menu entry to create a new sticky using the properties of the sticky I just right-clicked instead of the default properties. I normally colour code my stickies, and this would make creating new ones in specific groups easier.

Belgand: That's an issue with your browser, OS, and how it saves things and it is the same issue you are likely to have with each and every widget in the gallery. I don't have any control over how Yahoo handles the download process and Yahoo has no control over which browser you use and how it handles files with the 'widget' extension.

Good, but to get the latest version to run properly I had to unzip it first. Since it had a slightly non-standard extention (.widget.zip) it showed up as a valid widget thus causing me to click on it expecting it to work and getting nowhere until I attempted to redownload and noticed it was downloading as a zip.
I can see how this might be a greater problem to less experienced users.

It's equivalent to Post-It's desktop stickies except it's FREE. And it works very well if you use other Yahoo Widgets - less memory taken up! Great invention.

I have used this widget 1.02 and I am going to upgrade to 1.04. Not only has it been useful but it intergrates easily with all widgets and I have had no problems with it!
This is one of the most useful tools in this gallery! When I ask a question it is answered (Better than large corporation support staff).
I would give it an overall 5.0 star rating the extra star because the developer is always aware and is willing to fix the problems other than some who create a widget, upload it and think they have done something good but don't keep up to date with their development.
Cheers for the developer of this widget and taking on such a very daunting task hope you keep up the good work and carry on!!!
Thanks!

Elaine: There are a couple of possibilities one of which is that you are running both the old and new versions of the widget. Your best bet is to contact me directly at 'stickydeluxe@revenution.com' so that we can get to the bottom of any issues you are having. As for the donation prompt, that is still a part of the widget unless you purchase it or specifically email me and ask that it be removed (as per the instructions on that prompt).

I have attempted to download this update however it continues to say a newer version exists. In the about menu it says it is ver. 1.03. It also continues to come up with the nag screen prompting payment and according to prev. comment that should be gone with the new version. Please advise what I am doing wrong?

Styx: Thank you for your feedback. Please keep in mind that this widget has global level control and per sticky level control. Try doing a right click on the sticky in question, select change preferences for this sticky, click on 'Window' and set the sticky to background. Click save and then done and see if it behaves like it should. Or, go the general widget preferences, and click on 'use widget-wide window level' under display and then set the level to 'background' under window. Hope that helps!

Very good and useful widget !
However, there is a little bug : there is no difference between, the background mode and the normal mode. Even in background mode, the widget keep being over some other things like the windows startbar.
Thank you for developping a so good widget !

Ian: Thanks for the feedback. Yep, I really like that new feature myself as it helps keep everything at my finger tips without visually dominating the screen. ..................................................... Zipppp, yes, you should continue this via email at "stickydeluxe@revenution.com" since I don't officially support multiple widgets per but that window is the debug window and is not there when you download the official one from this page (that was just there for beta versions).

Hey JC, thanks for the latest version. My issue is this. For speed of show hide (I use the F8 view only) I have spawned ten versions of your widget. Now to upgrade, I need to spawn ten more of the new version and drag the text over from each one. Is that right? Or is there a fast way to transfer data and keep the latest version??
The popup screen is right at the beginning when the widget starts. It runs through a page of text that shows how various paramaters are set. As I have ten versions, I get that box ten different times and have to click each one away every time I restart or reload the widget engine. The help comment is around it saying "forwardslash"help to list the commands available. When I posted on this forum, the forwardslash disappears from the comment, so my feedback seemed a bit more incomprehensible than usual.
If you want to email me privately and avoid this sort of question on the public forum, then feel free to drop a line to ziipppp [a t] h o t m a i

Ziipppp: The version 1.04 was just released (even though, doh, it says 1.03 in the about section). Please download and use that as the correct version and the 'version' pop-up will go away.
My widget does not say "type help to get help" so I don't know where that is coming from (most likely another widget).

Hey JC: two other quick annoyances/features :-) that I am trying to work around I am now using your Beta. When it starts it says there is a newer version of the software available. This isn't true, as when I click it it takes me to the standard download page. Can I switch this alert off somehow? I now have spawned a dozen versions of the widget for quick start up. But that means I get a dozen times the popup that shows "type help to get help" etc. First, I know you said below that its explained how to switch this off, but despite reading the file several times I have to confess its beyond me. Could you be a little bit more specific? As for type help, the question is where? I can't do it on the text, nor the sticky nor the evaluate box. My guess is its in one of the concommitant .ini files next to the .txt file, but I haven't figured out quite how to make this work. Thanks again!

Ziipppp: Yep, I see that behavior regarding the new sticky when all stickies are in heads-up display. I will look into it.
As for the World Clock Pro, they are actually spawning additional copies of the widget (and not just creating new windows within the same widget). That is why it is faster. There is a problem with the widget engine handling multiple windows in and out of Heads up display mode.

Hi JC: Great feedback! Thanks for the advice, sure enough I've created half a dozen copies and all is well. Still no joy with the sticky showing when created in the headsup mode, ie I have to toggle, but thats OK. I'm curious about other workarounds for multi-window show and hide occuring quickly. I notice that I have about five clocks spawned from WorldClock Pro and they are pretty much simultaneous. Perhaps their work around doesn't work with text files. But this is a nice piece of work that you have done, and I really REALLY appreciate your speedy and helpful feedback. First class! Thanks!

Zippp: The first issue (slow draws going in and out of heads up display) is unfortunately an engine issue and effects all widgets that have multiple windows. One work-around is to make duplicate copies of JC Sticky Deluxe and run them as separate widgets.
As for your second question/issue, I believe this is resolved in the next version which has already been submitted to the widget gallery. You can download a copy it in advance in my widget feedback thread: http://www2.konfabulator.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10463&hl=sticky

Great widget, nice interface, good effects (eg windowblinds that roll up the sticky and save real estate). My only question is, I have a bunch of stickies and I use them in F8 headsup display only. When I toggle, it takes a couple of seconds for all the stickies to show. All the other widgets I have show instantly. Also, takes a few seconds for it to fade - also a problem as sometimes you want a note to go quickly when someone steps into your office. Is there some way of cloning or installing that will make the stickie notes display and hide really quickly? OK I guess I have one more question. When in the F8 view, if I create a new sticky it doesn't show. I have to toggle the view for the note to appear. Is there something that I can do to avoid doing that? Thanks!

If you mean that you've used the show/hide all stickies hotkey to hide all stickies, then yes, that is how it is supposed to work. Otherwise, some people who hide the stickies for a moment, would restart and the next day have no idea where/how to get them back. If you mean something else, please contact me via email please at stickydeluxe@revenution.com so that we can get to the bottom of your problem.

Julian: That seems like an odd bug and might be an issue with the engine and not the widget. How often have you had this happen? Once a week, once a month, once a day? As for registration, the window tells you what you need to do to remove the donation message even if you don't want to pay.
Patrik: I will do some testing and see if I can experience the same problem and what might be causing it.
Alfonso: That's a bug with the widget that can be worked around for now by going to preferences and turning on "always editable". Next release will fix that problem.
Jerry: Thanks for the note. What OS are you running as that will help me debug the problem.

Great sticky but ... (1) Every now and then, after I click on Show Desktop (Windows XP) the stickies disappear and won't reappear. Even when I press F8 (Heads Up Display), the stickies won't show up. The Shift+F5 to show all stickies won't work either. Going to the widget preferences and choosing "Show All Stickies Now" doesn't work either. The only way to get back the stickies in this situation is to close the Yahoo widgets application and restart Yahoo widgets. (2) Please provide an option to disable the donation pop up.

The latest version of YWE should automatically copy over the data. If you want to be safe, the first thing you can do is make a backup copy of the data by doing a search for "JC Sticky Deluxe" on your system and saving a copy of the folder that contains the data files. If you are running the latest version of JC Sticky Deluxe, there is also a menu option when you right click to open the data folder (and from there you can copy the data files as well).

Thanks TC and everyone else for your positive feedback.
TC: I guess I just don't see the need to try and combine the two (my sticky notes and a calendar application). There are so many calendar applications out there and almost all of them have a field where you can enter in notes about a specific event. If you need date and time specific things, you really should be using a full-fledged calendar like Yahoo Calendar, Outlook, Palm, etc.

M Burke: You can contact me at 'stickydeluxe@revenution.com'. There appears to be a bug in Konfabulator that causes certain widgets (animation ones, textarea ones, and a few others) to generate a lot of page faults for some odd reason. This is one of the reasons why the widget continuously takes up more cycles than it should even when not in any use. You might want to make sure it is restarted once a day.

Axxll: There are a lot of different alarm/reminder widgets and programs out there. I have yet to be convinced that adding that functionality into a sticky note widget makes a whole lot of sense. Just search for 'alarm' or 'reminder' in the widget gallery to see a variety of options available.
Tom Richmond: Thanks for the postitive comments. In order to do borders and shadows and very flexible resizing, I stuck with a very basic note graphic. In future versions, I will be considering some of kind of replacement for the default one...perhaps in Konfabulator 2.5 or whatever comes next. I am also considering creating a sticky 'control' window which the default behavior when clicking would be a new sticky.

Great widget... the best of the sticky crop.
I have only two wishes for future features: first, a prettier note graphic that looks a bit more like a real one (defects and all, like peeling corner, etc. Second, a desktop icon that creates a new sticky with one click. The hot-key is nice but that would be another choice for easy new sticky creation. Great job!

This is a great widget... although I do have one problem with it. I use hebrew text mainly in the widget. When I edit the widget, I can ctrl-shift click, and then the text will be aligned correctly - from right to left. But once I finish editing and exit the window, the text is again aligned to the left, making most of the stuff in the window look pretty wierd - english letters usually screw up the whole sentance. I'd love to know how to set the right to left setting as my default setting, as I usually write in hebrew in my stickies. Any help?

JC, thanx for being so proactive about comments issues, etc. You don't see that often today. It's not very often I donate money for software, because I usually get bored with programs or don't use them for long. I think by the end of the year (if things happen for me how I hope they do) I will be donating some $$
Question: I realize your always improving this. Did you get anywhere on the 'tab' issue?
Thanx again. P.S. Is there a web link/graphic I can put up on my web page for you?

Placoboy: Thanks for the kind words. The reason I currently always have a note active is to ensure that people are not confused on how to get new notes. Not everyone knows about the hotkey and if we simply allowed them to delete the last sticky without putting up a new one, well, they wouldn't know how to create any new ones.
For now, your best bet would be to minimize the last sticky and/or put it on Konspose if you don't want it in the way. I'll consider putting this as an option for future versions so that you can turn off this feature.

Very nice stuff. One question stuff: what is the need of having always one blank note open since we have the hotkey? it stands there empty and use some space? Another thing: could you memorize where this blank note reappears? and its size?
When I delete the last note, it reappears right in the middle of my screen ;-) and I have to move it on the side ... Cheers

Uncle Keg: Good idea but it is not going to happen. I've done Palm sync before and know the headaches. Unless there is already a working solution out there somewhere to take text files and sync them to Palm Memo (for both Mac and Windows), palm sync won't be added to this widget.

Request/Beg: I will be your best friend if you write a hotsync conduit to palm OS. Sync with the memo pad. This is the holy grail for stickynote/palm users and only one program has written it ---> and it does not work and they do not support it. So anyhoo, you may nnot want me as a best friend, I understand. Hotsync capability would be kiler though. Thanks for listening.

Hey guys, check how many stickies you have and what size they are running at. The more stickies you have and the larger the windows, the more processing power will be required by Konfabulator.
I haven't been seeing steady cpu usage when it is not active so if you are using reasonable sized windows and don't have 10 or more running, then please email me at 'stickydeluxe@revenution.com' and we can work to get to the bottom of this.

Future versions may have the option for more visually "interesting" notes but it is memory intensive because of the ability to resize the notes from very small to very large and sometimes scaling such images renders them less "elegant". :) However, it is on my 'possible' future enhancements list.

Hi folx, I have just submitted an updated version of this widget. Have added printing, minimize notes, global sticky levels, auto and manual version update checking, and access to the sticky note directory. Should be available for download this Friday evening.
Mario: Copy, cut, and paste should all work when you are in edit mode in the text. It will ignore font and other stuff. If it doesn't work at all, please contact me directly at 'stickydeluxe@revenution.com' as I have not seen this problem on either the Mac or the PC. Same is true for the font issue; it should automatically update the screen font after you've saved the preferences.
Richard S: I have eastern languages installed but am not experiencing any problems (though I am not an expert in this font area). Please contact me at 'stickydeluxe@revenution.com' so that I can assist you with resolving this issue.
Peter Savas: Minimizing stickies has been added.

JC, one request: Any chance of adding the ability to "minimize" the notes, so that say, only the equivalent of a "title bar" would remain visible on the desktop? I use a commercial product called "StickyNote" by Tenebril, Inc. (www.tenebril.com) that does this; adding this to your Widget would make it complete in my opinion!

Patrick: It is stored in the widget data folder on your system. The easiest way to find it is by doing a folder search for 'JC Sticky Deluxe'. However, I will be adding a feature to open that directory from the context menu in my next release.
M Burker (and others): Looks like I have found a few methods of printing from the widget. Not pretty (basically opening up other programs to print it for you) but it should work without having you to copy and paste the info yourself. Should be in the next release within the next couple of weeks.

Hey everyone, please keep the feedback and ideas coming. Also, please SERIOUSLY consider a paypal or check donation of any small amount ($1, $5, $10, anything you can afford) if you like using Sticky Deluxe. Would really be grateful!
John-Michael: You should be able to use cut and paste using standard methods..works for me at least. And I will be trying to add a very basic print functionality in a future version.
sflesch: The scroll thing is a bug in Konfabulator. If I turn on scroll bars, it doesn't look as good. If I turn them off, there is no way for me to let you know whether or not there ie extra text. I am thinking about having scrollbars as an option you can turn on and off.
Pat: You can enter in any character that you can type on the keyboard. I believe that there might be ways to put real bullets in there but since it can only be one font per sticky, the bullet character would have to be in the font you use. Personally, I just use '-' or '*'

I will look into adding shadows when you are not editing the text and yes, it can be always on top. Simply edit an individual sticky preferences and in the 'window' set it to topMost and in the main preferences window click "use this as default for all stickies" and that should do it.

Very nice. Duplicates the basic functions of the post-it software. If you're looking for other features, I like the organize notes in memoboards features, but I think you're going for the minimalistic look. http://www.3m.com/market/office/postit/com_prod/psnotes/psn_matrix.html has a comparison of some of the features, so you may wish to take a look here for more ideas.

Nico: You need to click on the scroll area on the right side for the scroll bar to appear on some systems. It's a bug in konfabulator, I believe. You can also unzip the widget and look at the license.txt if you want.
James Haslam: You need to right click a sticky to open up the individual sticky preferences. In there, you will see a choice to modify the font. You can also check the box so that the font and colors are used for as the default for all future stickies.

Dan and rotane: I will be adding a feature that allows you to globably set a single level for every sticky (whether it be konspose or any other level). It will supercede any per-widget settings (and this would include new stickies). The reason new stickies go topmost is to ensure that you get one at your finger tips the moment you request a new one from the hotkey.
cong: The data is stored in your widget data directory. I will add a link to the location in a future version so you can quickly access it.

JD, thanks for your reply! And I see your point. I know about the hotkey, but since it is global (and not only while the sticky being active) I can't set it to something like CTRL-N.
Anyway, now I found something more of a bug: whenever I spawn a new sticky it sets its window-layer to "normal", while all the others are "konsposé only". And there was no way I could set the default value to that. And yes, I know about the context-menu settings, and to check the "use as default". And all of he default-settings work, just not the konsposé only thing..

Dan/yensed: Each sticky can be put on any level including Konspose. It is per level, not per widget so it gives you a ton of flexibility. I will be considering an option in future versions which move all current stickies to a specified level (such as Konspose) so you don't have to move them one by one if you change your mind.
rotane: You can use the hotkey to create new stickies or you can use the pop-up menu. For now, I am trying to keep the stickies as clean (visually) as possible.

Very good customizability, while still very easy to use. Also didn't crash or lost content so far. Excellent!
A suggestion: how about adding a (+) symbol somewhere on one of the edges that would spawn a new sticky? (Of course there could/should be a setting that lets the user decide wheather he wants that (+) symbol or not.)

aashish13: Actually, that should not happen since upon deletion, the software checks to see if that was the last sticky and creates a new one. You might want to use the widget preferences and under functions, turn on "Show All Stickies" because you may have accidently set some preferences that make it hard to see. :D
Don't forget to rate the software and, if you can spare it folx, send in a few days via paypal or check! My two little ones would greatly appreciate their dad earning a few bucks from his hard work. ;)

Sorry I think I found a little annoyance. If you delete all the stickies, and close the widget, no new stickie will appear to write any notes on. You should fix this. Very cool being able to resize :) Please don't stop and continue onward, this is by far the most well coded widget here!! Great work ;)

Thank you! I actually LOVE the ability to set it to only show the font, no background, and to LOCK THEM IN PLACE! They are where I leave them, even if I quit Konf/restart my mac. YAY! Keep up the good work :)

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. A future version will include the ability to collapse and even totally hide stickies (both individually and, hopefully, grouped stickies).

by FAR the best sticky memo widget yet! i'm STILL Waiting for someone to implement the ability to "collapse" the sticky into a small title bar only (like the old osx stickies). maybe in a future update? all in all though, awesome freakin' job!

This widget combines all the features I've wanted for Stickies into a clean and adjustable interface.
