ok this is the best countdown timer ive seen so far, but to make it better here are the only flaws i found...
i dont remenber if its like this in the show, but when the timer hits 4 minutes, i dont think its supposed to take another minute for it to go to 3:59.
second, an option should be made to hide the monitor until the timer stops beeping, then when the code is entered the monitor should go away again.
also, the gliphs egyption however u spell it things should come down one at a time in the order they do in the show, its some weird random order, and the rest of them should flip until they come down.
besides those things, this is very good! i hope you can update this for us...

Oh Gosh what a disappointment to all Lost fans. Anyways a very good widget. WELL DONE! Had me check this site everyday. You really have a talent there! Take care Allen!
PS: Whoever told you that the hatch was no more....was misinformed. There is a new hatch now that has just been discovered ;)

Hi everybody, Sorry to disenlighten you guys, but the Lost widget is something that I currently don't have time to deal with. I'm sorry to say that I haven't made any updates to it since the current version. It's just too time consuming, and with school, there's no time at all for it. I haven't even kept up with the show (season 3), but from what I've heard, the hatch is no more... which means the end of this widget, i suppose.
Maybe in the future, I may fix some things up, but don't count on it.
Sorry to leave you with such bad news, but I wanna say thanks to everyone for downloading this widget and using it. Thanks for all the support from you guys and everyone who suggested new ideas and improvements and stuff.
This widget started out as just a quick little thing that sounded interesting to make, and it turned into this massive project, with many clones, imitations, and modifications by others. This was the original Lost widget by the way (c

TheBigBlue: You have to open apart the widget and change the code to do that. If you already did that, then it's in Lost.js, this line: "start = Math.floor((new Date()/1000)+(6485));" Just change the 6485 part to whatever you want.

Great Widget. One thing - you could make it more realistic by having the cursor move to the right automatically when you input the number, like on the show. Think it moves across whether the number is correct or not, as long as it fills the desired amount of digits for that number.

And I know it's not THAT important, but in the log files there's always an unnecessary "0" in the the date. But, we remember, in the show the date was "922044:16", and in the widget-log file it would be "09220404:16". It's not tragic, but it would be nice if you could fix that. Aaaaand, there should be a lot more "SYSTEM FAILURE". And on the screen to. But, it's a great widget, I love, go on....

And it would be cool if you replace the single "Ececute"-Button, and make the whole keyboard, because in the show, the monitor stands on a keyboard, and I think it would be cool if you would do that, Allen. But, nevertheless, great job!!

I have few excellent ideas for this widget :) 1. If possible, it would be nice ending option - to turn off a monitor. 2. An ability to execute shortcut after countdown. 3. And an ending option which chooses random between: Shutdown; Restart; Stand by; Turning off monitor, and doing nothing. It would be great, because people wouldn't know what will happen (or won't happen at all). :-)

I give this Clock a Poor Ending
First of all
The Heiroglyphics Show up all at once when they are really supposed to Flip 1 at a time.
you hear System Failure But
He should add like the backround getting Destroyed and Stuff he should put like Metel Objects Flying all over the PLace.
and Once the Timer Reaches Zero
It makes it Near Impossible To enter the Code.
Because the computer screen is very Slow....
Allen Please Fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Allen...for when you return...I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing this, or if it's just a fluke, but I let it run down to the 4-minute mark, and I was unable to enter ANYTHING. I'm going to try again and see what happens. Suggestion: There is a site that has some excellent sound files from Lost (http://www.losthatch.com/soundeffects.aspx), and I would like to hear the "EM Discharge" sound. It'd be cool too if the screen could shake when it goes off.

hey King Eng to tell you the truth i had that exact same idea!!!!! Great minds think alike. :) I pictures it like this- The right side of your screen is like the magnet and when it hits zero all your icons start flying at it and smashing. It strats of with about 2 icons every 10 secs but then youve got multiple icons every 4 secs! Then once its run out of icons the timer shrinks and then all you do allen is make some fake icons start flying out of the left side of the screen and they are unlimeted. However if you mannage to enter the numbers before the timer shrinks all the icons apper were they were. If that is possible i reckon that i would be happen if you devoted the next version completly to that!!! Thanks.

HE obviously watched it back when desmond had to enter on a system failure, and actually...i counted him typing the code in 4 times, and once he hit the execute button twice in a row.....so it was definetly the fourth time that made the clock flip back.
I would aslo like to ask... why doesnt the cmopter beep from 4 mins...its flips then counts to 3:56....im not complaining, just wondering.....sohuld it not beep as soon as the counter flips into the 3:59 mark?

this is how it works on the show (system failure) when it is in sytem failure the only way to enter the numbers is this-
4 8 15 16 23 42 execute 4 8 15 16 23 42 execute 4 8 15 16 23 42 execute and then it flips back so you enter the numbers 3 times and on the third execute they flip back.

Thanks for the info Allen, Sorry to be a bother, but I was wondering if you will make it very difficult to enter the numbers during system failure? Like the way desmond had difficulties. I am just brain stomring...but would it be possible that during system failure, you could make a sort of code that would need to be dead on to get the clock to flip back, like enter the numbers and press execute, tehn enter the numbers and then press execute twice, then enter the numbers twice and press execute 3 times...you know waht i mean? Thank for the reply anyway!

Greenman: Technically, if you want 108 minutes, then the countdown should start at 108:00, not 108:59, which is an extra minute. But I added an extra 5 seconds (108:05) just so that it shows the famous 108.
And the flipping thing, that's tough to perfect. It all depends on the computer's speed. If you have a fast computer, then the fliping will be done faster than the sound. And if you have a slow computer, it's the opposite.
UPDATE STATUS: So far, it's kinda bumpy. The blinking cursor is really hard to get right. -Added the beep after entering the numbers -I'm keeping the system failure sound effects (even though they aren't perfect). If I use the one from the show (with all the little clangs and bangs and rumbling), it makes the widget REALLY slow and increases the filesize quite a bit.

Good to see that the little beep is added...I wanted to bring up something else. Will the flipping sound be more syncroniszed with clock flipping back to 108? It is just slightly out of sync. Another question, Why after entering the code does the clock flip to 108 and then 10 seconds later go to 107...it is not a full minute... I really like this widget it is really great of you to make it...keep up the good work!

Hey, this widget is so awesome allen, just try and get the symbols to flip 1 by 1, that'd be so awesome, and when they do flip, instead of just having the flipping sound, make it have that powering up sound that locke hears in "One Of Them", that'd be awesome, and instead of having the system falier loop over and over, just have the actually one from the show where it just repats cos thats wot it dus on the show, it sounds better, same with the magnet sound...thx its awesome

What I meant was the thin, 1px one is always there. You can't get rid of that. It's part of the textarea, just like that one that you use to make comments here. I did make an image of a thicker cursor and placed it right on top of the default one, but if the blink timing isnt right, then you will see the original one.
But I just came up with another idea. How about when the textarea isn't active (which means no 1px cursor) it'll show the thicker, blinking one, and when you CAN type (under 4 minutes), the thick cursor will show, but won't blink.

I dont care if the cursor is a [] or not. If you cant work it out, whatever. No big deal. I think the spacebar should be used regardless of what continuity errors the show had. There are spaces between each number, so hit the space bar, it's not rocket surgery :P

Stop arguing over a little spacebar issue. I'm going to keep it the way it is for now because it makes more sense.
Bad news: The blinking cursor isn't easy to implement. The textarea by default has the 1 pixel wide cursor, and I can't get rid of that. I can't just cover it with a thicker one, because there's no way to find out the length of the blink. It varies from computer to computer.
I'm gonna work on fullscreen and see how it turns out. It might slow the widget down a lot though.
And there are a few other features that I'm working on right now.
I'm not sure when I'm going to be finished with these improvements, but I plan to finish in a week or two.

Any idea when the new update is or the new version of other23's?? oh and Dave..you just sounded a little offensive, you shouldnt patronize others on here..and before you deny it, using the word "retarded" is a prime example. Seems to me that you thrive on confrontation and to be honest..you just stated the exact same thing i did when i said it was a mistake by the show...
and i am going to try to get it through to you taht how it is possible for the space to move on its own... consider each dot (.) as a space for a digit the computer program could be as such.. . . .. .. .. .. so there it is possible to put in the wrong number for example . . .. .. .. .. 4 8 15 16 23 42 or 4 8 16 16 4 8 15 16 22 42
etc etc... so DAve just dont attempt to attack others on here, we all want the same thing. Maybe you should try to get out more ;)..lol

*sigh* Greenman, im sorry, ive already had to deal with one retarded comment and situation in this widgets comment section, I cant be bothered to deal with another argument arrising, especially out of something which was discussed a few days ago on the other widgets forum topic in which it was decided with evidance that they DID press the spacebar, but only once was it shown that they didnt, which was probably a mistake on the shows front. And if you didnt need to press the space bar, how is it possible that on episode 14 when locke enters the wrong number that it doesnt reconigize it as such, or does and moves forwards automatically? Jeeeeeeesh its only a internet game technically mate, calm down O.o lol

Dave my friend...I think YOU should think of things before you say them! Computers programs can be set, for example..6 numbers need to be typed in..which are "4 8 15 16 23 42"..imagine the first two only accept 1 digit numbers (e.g 6, 8, 2 etc etc...) then the 3rd to 6th number there are spaces for 2 digits ( e.g. 18, 27, 64 etc...) please tell me you understand? lol. And to prove my point...locke in the hach for the very first time does NOT press the space bar...trust me, i am 100% sure.

You DO have the press the spacebar. If you listen to Kelvin when he first presses the button, the amount of keystrokes heard lets you know that he pressed the spacebar. Besides, how would the computer know when to move forwards, and distinguish a 4 from a 42? Lol think about these things before you say them :P

Well spotted SALMON! I noticed that too, but I think it might be a mistake in the show. Its either 1 or 2 of the following... 1) when desmond first uses it he types with the space bar, but when he first tells locke to use it, locke did not use the space bar. 2) The computer does not register the spacebar so it makes no difference if you use it...it moves along on its own if you like...if you know what i mean?

Oh, and one last thing. You say you want to end it, but everytime you reply (which in my last comment I said just dont and let it be over), you end it with a little witty comment like "it is after all your own fault." which baits me to reply. Think about that if you CHOOSE to reply to this and thus continue it :)

Salmon, YOU started it with the comment: "The hatch experience creator also stole your execute key, if you type "execute" into the control panel your execute key appears so you can use it." out of the blue AFTER Allen had already talked to Other23 and knew what had been "Stolen".
You started it, your the one starting conflict, and IM the one telling you off because of it. Now shut up, use the widget, get on with your life, and enjoy :)

ALLEN ALREADY KNOWS WHAT OTHER23 HAS, AND VISA VERSA! YOU TRYING TO ACT LIKE "The Good samaritan" ISNT HELPING ANYONE AND *IS* TRYING TO CREATE CONFLICT SINCE HE ALREADY KNOWS AND ITS ALL SORTED. :) And I have no reason whatsoever to "Create Conflict" between you, Allen, Other23, or anyone for that matter you strange child. Actually wait a sec, your just using the argument I used against you against me... O.o Good going on that one matey, since you really have just made yourself officially, look a tit. As you said this is for comments, so hush, do not respond to this unless giving a comment ON the widget, and go and pretend to be helpful somewhere else. You loose, good day sir!

Dave, I stand by what I said, Allen has a right to know exactly what Other23 has taken from him, DO NOT ACCUSE ME of trying to create conflict between them, I am glad they both sorted it all out. I am just mad you accused me of trying to create conflict between them, Other23 and Allen have done alot of hard work upgrading their widgets, this place is a place where we comment and make suggestions for upgrading, don't turn it into a pointless arguement, your only trying to create a conflict between me and them, which is not going to happen because they are both really good scripters and are trying really hard to make us happy.

lol Salmon, how is my post which is stating facts and reasons why he shouldnt judge purely as a rip off creating conflict? If anything I helped to sort the conflict out between Other23 and Allen so that they are now getting along 100%. Other23 even gave Allen permission now since my post and Allens post to use any of the graphics that Other23 has created!
While you on the other hand post when its all been sorted out between them and Allen already knows what Other23 has taken from Allen and Allen has made friends with Other23 for no reason except to cause conflict.
Please THINK before you make baseless and pointless arguments against me my friend :)

COOL WIDGET!!! I've been looking for something like this as soon as I finished watching LOST. Anyways what I suggest is that something more exciting should happen if you dont push the button...shutting down windows would be cool. And I agree that the green light should be on all the time, not just for the last 4 mins! Fantastic stuff man, looking forward for the next version ;o)

Question mark is right, well spotted. Greenman is also right, there should be a flasshing green light at the texts, where the code is entered, all the time. perviously mentioned too....it would be cool if it was really difficult to enter the code at system failure (like desmond did)...overall great widget.. and i think it would be a great idea if it made your computer shut down if the button wasnt pushed!!

Other23 and Allen have talked to each other about it, Other23 apologised and has now given Allen permission for Allen to use any of the images that Other23 have created.

Hey allen, you're probably sick of all these people andf their demands, but remember to make a fullscreen mode where you can only see the input " >: " and black screen. The one who made the "Hatch experience" widget has good sounds and has figure out how to make several things fullscreen, he also has nice sounds. It wouldn't be a bad idea to ask him for some of his methods, he does kind of owe you after all.
This is a great widget, and you're very close to getting it perfect, great job

Hi, This is a fantastic widget, but I wanted to add a comment just because I have never seen anyone mention it. On the computer sreen there should always be a green light flashing where you input the code, not just after 4 minutes. Also want to say, I really like the fact that you can enter the code after zero, but it would be better if they dropped into place one by one. Anyway, thanks a lot, great game.
p.s A full screen mode would be superb.

Hey man, this widget is AWESOME!!! i love it! this is the best thing eva, but wot u should do, is make the hyroglyphics, flip down like 1 by 1 with like a 5 second wait until the next one goes down instead of them all going down at the same time, and wen it says system faliure, u shood hav the actually shaking sorta sound from the show, instead of just looping the same sound over again, and instead of just looping a bit of the magnetic sound over and over, u should just have the full one from the show with all the shaking and stuff, but still, this is so awesome!!! thx cya, plz try n make these changes!

Nick: I thought about including a fail-safe key before, but we're not exactly sure what happens after; everything stops, but what does the computer show? I'm gonna wait before I include that.
And the heiroglyphics flipping into place... I was too lazy/busy to make a whole new set of flipping cards for v2.0, as you may have noticed. If/when I do, I'll replace the cheesy flipping effect that I have now with the realistic flipping.

...however you cant see the numbers that have been entered because SYSTEM FAILURE is repeating over and over on the screen. Even the computer screen starts to crack. you hit execute and its back to 108:00 however the screen is still cracked and REMAINS CRACKED for the rest of the widget's entirity. The timer is fine though. If you had waited a little longer, the timer would have imploded.
As for the fail-safe key. Make it show up on screen once you are in negative time (aka the whirring and clanking begins). If you drag the key across the screen into an image of a key hole, it goes in. The key turns and you hear and/or see a discharge. Remember the failsafe doesnt HAVE TO BE used. It is what it is...a fail safe. If you seriously are having trouble entering the code, youve got the key.
If that all works out, I thi

Reinforcing this suggestion:
"For the next version fix this- SYSTEM FAILURE never stops it continues to grow stronger and stronger and never stops saying SYSTEM FAILURE. After 34 secs the timer shrinks and this would be cool-Every 30 secends after the timer shrinks the computer breaks a bit more but as soon as it breaks even only a little bit the numbers cant be entered and the only way to stop it is to use the "Fail Safe key." That would be great! Also the hiroglyphics click into place in a 15 second time span. Fix that and do the Sytem Failure and this widget would be the best!"
000:00- You hear the whirring noise and the clanking. It lasts 15 seconds and as it whirs and clanks you see each heiroglyph snap into place. At 15 seconds the all the glyphs are in place. SYSTEM FAILURE is heard and is seen on the moniter. the whirring is getting stronger, the clanking has stopped. you can still type in the code, however you cant see the numbers that have been enter

This isn't a big issue and it's easy to fix up, but if you want your widget perfect...
When you type in the numbers as the hieroglyphs appear and press "enter" in the log it says system failure. It's not much of a problem and easy to fix up, I don't want to sound like a complainer. Your widget is the best!!!

I must say Allen you've done more than I could've asked for. Here's a couple minor issues:
1. The initial 'beep' when there are under 4 minutes left should be every other second instead of beep-pause-pause. 2. The hieroglyphics should shuffle into place (see Hatch Experience for more info). 3. I suggest you use the System Failure audio from Hatch Experience. Since he ripped yours off you can rip his off (eye for an eye)
Thats all I got. Great job!

I spent many, many hours making this widget come to life. To see someone just take all your work and build upon it, well... I have mixed feelings. I know that he too must've spent some time fixing it up, but at the same time, it seems quite unfair to me.
He's already done a lot of work to the original widget, and for me to tell him to remove it would be pointless and a big waste of time and effort.

Excuse me Allen, but I think its rude of you to say he "Stole" your widget. He has given you credit and right at the beginning of any mention of his widget, he always included a link to yours saying its the original and thanks for that.
The difference between you and him is that for the past 2months he has actively been working with peoples feedback to create a Countdown with every single little event from the show, to the smallest detail's as best as he could, with a lot of effort and a lot of coding.
So All I can say is, how dare you insult his by calling it a "Rip-Off", and perhaps try his yourself just to see how much coding and effort has been put into it before you go judging....

Go and watch the season finale again and you'll get a full demonstration of what happens when the timer runs out. (Live togother, Die alone)
There are two scenes with the timer running out, on is at about 62 minutes into the episode (which shows the screen displaying SYSTEM FAILURE) and the other is 72 minutes in (which shows the timer imploding), I hope this gives you something to improve your widget with, great job so far :)

Not sure if this has been fixed since 2.1 but if it hasn't please just make a small version with this bug fixed..... In the "Print Log" You have it set out like this:

it goes down in rows........But it should go like this:
02050610:25 accepted 02050611:42 accepted 02050612:20 accepted 02050613:56 accepted 02050614:59 accepted 02050610:25 accepted 02050611:42 accepted 02050612:20 accepted 02050613:56 accepted 02050614:59 accepted 02050610:25 accepted 02050611:42 accepted 02050612:20 accepted 02050613:56 accepted 02050614:59 accepted ect.

Great update, and a good hatch button sim.
There are a few things to touch up though. While the sound effects are all good and well timed, you're still missing the magnet charging sound while the heiroglyphs are dropping. Also the heiroglyphs drop individualy into place. The system failure sound's nice, however it's a little faster than you have it, about 1 second apart from each other. Another cool effect would be to add the system failure text with your next update.
There is a way to speed up the time down to 4 minutes btw. Just adjust your system clock ahead and it will trick the widget into skipping time.
Other than that great widget. And great work with the new look, I'm liking the swan apple 2 comp screen, and that the timer implodes.

Only one problem.... http://www.lost-forum.com/showthread.php?t=40338 . He seems to be ahead of you on everything at the moment. The only difference is that this countdown lets you enter the numbers after it has gone below 0 to the hierogylphics and countdown. But overall, superb matey :)

Entering the code wrongly will do this-
>: 4 8 15 16 24 42 It will now go to a new row-
>: 4 8 15 16 24 42 >:
As long as you keep entering the wrong code it will just fill up the screen- >: 4 8 15 16 24 42 >: dghvgdvhdt >: yhvbrybhvyrhtyvbrjvynjvryu >: erhvtvrhyjbjyrvrnyjmny
When the correct code is entered the screen clears-
>: 4 8 15 16 24 42 >: dghvgdvhdt >: yhvbrybhvyrhtyvbrjvynjvryu >: erhvtvrhyjbjyrvrnyjmny >: 4 8 15 16 23 42>>>>>>>>
>:
Thats what happens if the code is entered inncorect.

So, instead of wasting my time writing everything I know, if any of you want to find out the secrets of Lost, go to www.4815162342.com. PS-You also need to go to this website if you're working on mission 11 for the M:I:3 Global Hunt; to finish mission 11, go to the URL:http://www.4815162342.com/gallery.htm, then highlight the pic of JJ directing on the water.

Just to add more detail to what has been said...
When it gets to 1min the alarm goes off every certain amount of seconds until it gets to 30seconds, then increases in speed. Then when it gets to last 10seconds it increases so theres no space whatsoever in between the beeps. Then it flips to zero and THEN goes to the Glyphic's (one at a time) and you can still enter the code when it is doing this. Also when it is changing to the glyphic's theres a loud powering up typed sound too. Then once the glyphics are up the screen comes up with "SYSTEM FAILURE" over and over again with a voice saying "System Failure" over and over again also. In this time you can enter the numbers, but make it so that its extremly hard to do so since its supposed to be extremly, and I mean extremly difficult at this point to enter the numbers. Then the whole thing ends after X amount of time pushing it. The best place to get all the sound files from is www.lost-hatch.com .

Allen, this how the countdown works-
Countdown starts at 108, counts down until 4 minutes at which point the beeping sounds. At 1 minute, the different more frantic but with a few seconds in between each chime. At 10 seconds, an alarm with no space in between each chime sounds. When the countdown reaches 000:00, an ambient startup sound comes on and the countdown starts flipping manically and hieroglyphs start to appear, I'll send you the hieroglyphs if you want as well. You can still enter the code and then it flips back to 108:00 as normal. If you leave the countdown to go, many system failure messages come up and then an electromagnetic cloud starts with more ambient sounds. It is not until the electromagnetic cloud starts that you cannot enter the code and flip it back to 108:00

Good Widget, but some problems:
1- There's no flipping sound 2- The beeps are off in one place, when you hit 0:59. the loud Klaxxon sounds once every 2 seconds, you have it every second, that only happends at 30 seconds. 3- Sometimes, for Win 2000 ( I have it on my laptop so I can take it with me, so I never ever miss the button, i pushed it 165 times already) you cant select the text area. 4- Colors are a bit wrong.

well my problem with the stupid programs is something about directx. But something like microsoft directx sound. I think this is retarted because it shouldnt need directx. I dont know why this has been creating problems. The website called //zach.dmarie.com has to files but only one downloads correctly, and the one that does download doesnt work right, and has problems with the sound like with directx. If somebody knows how to fix this please help. It helps if you have that program to create your own lost widget. Its called microsoft visual studio 2005, and probably isn't a download, you probably need to buy it at like a computer store.

The current version of the widget, 1.2, will not harm your PC. nor put it to sleep or reboot it. What happens at the end affects only the widget.
And if anyone has a question, try looking for it on this page before asking something that may have already been answered.

And Allen, I know this would be a pain, having read your notes in the zip file, but the Arial font should be replaced by the Helvetica font.. it is the one used on the clock in the show.

To all those looking for the Lost/Dharma Clock Mac Widget, it is here:
http://www.skia.net/dev.php
Scroll down a little and you'll see the Swan logo.
Also Allen, you could extract and use the sounds from the Mac widget as they are perfect (kinda like ryan said on May 9). You'll have to convert them from AAC/M4A/MP4 to wav though. You can do that using this: http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/ (it's free) but you will have to download some extras. The program will download them for you when you are using it if you need them.
Namaste... and.. good luck. :)

1. Gotta make that full screen. It would be cool if you programmed the thing that the Ctrl button will replace the execute button, it means, that you enter the code and press Ctrl. And the hieroglyphs missing too. It good, man, just finish it.

This widget was really cool! I used it every Wednesday – pushing the button to gear up for watching Lost (sounds silly, but it was strangely amusing lol). I just came back here to see if you made any updates to the widget because I’ve tried some other “Dharma hatch computer” simulators that I found at http://www.lost-forum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=126

Great job. I know that a lot of people are pressuring you for an update, and I agree with most of what they are requesting. I realize that you have a life on the outside, but you’ve created something really amazing and we all just want to see you take the widget to its completion. Especially since Season 2 is over and there won’t be any more clock additions that we know of. Once again, truly amazing work. Thank you and namaste.

As others have said, there needs to be more modificatios: -Full Screen Mode -Clock and Computer Scree should not be dominantly on the top, I can't see other programs because they are always anchored on top -Numbers flippig one by one into hieroglyphic mode -As they are flippig, System Failure should keep going ad going -Program should not terminate unless user specifies it in preferences, i.e. it should only shut up after the code is entered.

Ill make it a 4 when it does more than just shake, Hierogylphics come up, the even faster 10second beep sound (yes, at 10seconds it gets even faster), and the system failure stuff :)
Then I can officially give you so much love its unbelivable....

This is a great widget, but I think you should update it so that the heiroglyphics appear when the button isn't pressed in time, along with the system failure stuff that's shown in the later episodes of Season 2, rather than the shaking or whatever happens when the numbers aren't put in. (I forgot :P)

With the hyroglyphics These are what you need.... First of all when the button is pushed you !!!NEED!!!! a flipping efeect and sound...second when the hyroglyphics appear have it flipping fast and the white part goes red...... as it flips, every 2 seconds have one of the hyroglyphics click down, in this time you can click the button, If the last hyroglyphic hits zero a power up sound is heard and a voice says: System Faliure about 20 times one every 10 secs then the widget closes! That would be great if you could do that by the next update!!! (P.S. YOU MUST MAKE FULLSCREEN) Good Work AllenWu you are the gretes widgeter of them ALL!!!!!!!

Great widget. Now that we know what happens when the button is not pushed, I make the following suggestions: 1) More accurate alarm sounds. The real alarms are: a) the beep every 2 seconds for the first 3 minutes, b) the more urgent alarm every other second and c) the same urgent alarm every second. Also, after zero, the timer should should all five hieroglyphics along with the "powering up" heard whenever the glyphs start. When the glyphs all come up, you could have the "system failure" announcement over and over. If possible, maybe sound effects of the metal objects hitting the magnetic wall. At one point, the timer should crumple up like it did in the last few seconds of the ordeal. Finally, you hear the sound of a key entering a lock (the fail-safe) and being turned, a flash of light, an annoying noise (the loud noise that survivors had to cover their ears for) and then the whole thing just disappears like it does now. Also, as an added bonus, at any poi

Oh and of course the heiroglyphics would be pretty funky -- I guess you'd need to give them an additional 5 seconds or something to enter the code after the countdown ends in order to actually see them though.
One last request -- would it be possible to put in an option to turn off typos? I don't remember seeing the countdown ending in the show if they type the numbers incorrectly.

Great widget, something to distract me at work when I start going mad :)
A couple of suggestions though -- perhaps the penalty for failing should be something that gives a legitimate incentive rather than simply ending the app. I was thinking that maybe the penalty could be putting the PC into standby mode. This way it's nothing really bad (you don't lose any work, it's just very annoying), but I'm sure you'll rush to enter the numbers instead of thinking "yeah whatever".
Another thing I thought would be kinda good is to pause the countdown when you lock your PC. Becomes sorta pointless "pushing the button" every 108 minutes if you can't do it when you sleep; I'm sure the users aren't going to do shifts like on the show. :) Locking the PC means that you can't just pause it whenever you want -- if you lock your PC you can't really continue to use it can you :)
Oh and of course the heiroglyphics would be pretty funk

Ok. I have Yahoo! Widgets Engine. I download it (compressed file) (No other option), and then I extract all the files. After that, the new window comes up with the extracted files. I double click on the program, and a message comes up saying this:
Could not open Widget C:Documents and SettingsMY NAME IS HERE)Local SettingsTemporary Inernet FilesContent.IE5Q4Z3JCQYLost[1]Lost.widget. It either isn't a Widget or you don't have access to that file. (StartWidgetProcess: Cannot find Widget file in zip container).
It continues to do this after multiple tries. Any advice on how to get the thing I really want working working? (this) Thanks!

How bout this? Put in macro's if you can, and put in an auto-type option. I don't know if it's just me, but I don't stay in my room for 2 hours waiting for beeps. Plus, I miss it a lot.
Just a little tip. If it was my widget, I would wait until Season 2 is over, just in case anything big happens with the computer in the show. Once Season 2 is over, update it with new stuff. That's just me though.

Very Nice. I downloaded the program just to have it. Just a suggestion though.
1. When it reaches 0, instead of it shutting down, it should play the noice where the numbers flip back (the flipping noise), then display the hieroglyphics and play the whirring noise. (Found one here: http://www.losthatch.com/sounds%5Cshow_sounds%5CS2E14_Locke_Clock_Countdown.mp3)
2. (Ideas coming from Nick) Then if you don't enter the code within about 4 minutes of that, then a blast door comes down on the screen, turns neon blue or some other color close to the black light, show the map. (Found one here: http://lostpedia.com/images/0/0c/BlastDoorMap.jpg) Then in about a minute or two, the door will rise again.
But that's just my idea.

The computer is infact an Apple II model, however the apple logo has been replaced with The Swan. Here's what I would like to see in an update:
-Blast doors come down on the desktop -the widget turns neon blue and 'The Map' is shown -Heiroglpyhics are turned over seperately -Theres a preference that allows shorter timespans (For example, we only have to wait 18 minutes rather than 108)
Those would make the widget a lot cooler and more up-to-date with lost

This Widget works perfectly. I also would like the updated clock that "Anna_lucia_Fan" has,the addition of the 3-4 minute "Panic Alarm" that "me" has posted above, of course, the "Flipping Sound" that occurs when the clock resets to 108:00, and "me"s Monitor is a bit rough around the edges, but to take a .PNG image of an old Apple 2e monitor and add the DARMHA symbol would be the coolest !!!
Keep up the good work !!!! Just like the show, I don't think any of us can wait until v1.3 of the LOST widget !!!!

Now, how do I get this LOST Widget to become a normal Widget for OSX? It works inside Yahoo's Konfc.d.bdsdfator - something. But I want it like a normal OSX Widget. It seams impossible or diffucult to do this. Any great suggestions? I tried to change the extension to wdgt, but no go. It seems aqward to use Yahoo when everything is integrated into OSX..... Thanks.

Lost Fan: You're right. The seconds start at 59, which is why the minutes don't change right away.
Allie: I'll consider adding the Walt thing. I haven't worked with widgets for a while (too busy), so it might be some time before it gets updated. Sorry.

Hmm...I don't know if this problem only happens to me, but when the counter reaches 4.00 minutes, it does not immediately go to 3:59 and so on until one minute later. Why's that? Shouldn't 3:59 show immediately after 4:00?
I'm a little bit confused right now...but the only explanation I can come up with is that 108:00 actually represents 108:59 counting down until it reaches 108:00, and one second later if flips to 107:00 which is actually 107:59?

Just so you know, the hieroglyphs stand for "Cause to Die" or at least that's what the majority of the community have translated already (not sure if that translation includes the second unrevealed character) http://mercury.walagata.com/w/caste/lost.jpg

Maybe you could add the effect of the numbers being flipped back and reset after the code is entered. Right now it seems kind of anticlimactic to have the number 108 appearing without showing the numbers flipping back. Just a nit pit. Love it otherwise.

great job! maybe you can add an option to use this as an alarm clock, which may make it a little more bearable to wake up at all :) removing the 108mins would ruin the whole idea, thus the 'option' to do so.

Apparently the problem i have only affects macs. "if the Widget doesn't specify a width and height for the window and defines no content for that window in the XML, it will appear offscreen on the Mac."
Maybe a fix for Version 1.2? Thanks for the help though! still love the widget idea at least :-) That gets it 4 stars :-)

Hey Allan! Here are the sounds from the show: http://henriko2.5gigs.com/sounds.zip The tick is for the counter. The beep is when you have 4 minutes left And the alert is when it is errrr.. 30 seconds left? I'm not so sure about that one :P

If you REALLY want to raise the stakes you should make the Widget mess with your registry or delete some .dll's when you don't enter the code in time. Upload that for the risktakers.
I'm kind of serious :)
Really good work on this, I'd like to see you develop it more. Graphically it's not the best thing ever, but that can be worked on. I would especially love to see this for SveDesk, as I don';t really use Konfabulator. I'd do it if I had the time or knowhow.

guest: By [TODO], I meant that fullscreen mode is on my todo list.
Jesse: After downloading, you should have Lost.zip. Extract the files from Lost.zip. Then you should have Lost.widget and a readme.txt. If you have Konfabulator installed, then just open up Lost.widget to use the widget.
Toll: If you watch Lost (you apparently don't), then you should know what the "fuss" is. This widget is like the computer from the show. I tried to make everything about it as close to the real one. The seconds aren't supposed to countdown until after 4 minutes. The screen is supposed to stay blank (for now, it might change as more episodes are shown) and the button isn't supposed to do anything (if the screen is blank). This widget is just for fun. If you don't like it, don't use it! However, I encourage you to watch Lost. Then maybe you'll know what this widget does.

Yeah, so the counter counts down, but the seconds don't work, the screen stays blank and the button does nothing. I once managed to get the screen to accept some numbers, but then it just reset the clock. Great .... what good is that? What has it all got to do with the TV programme? Other comments about graphics etc - I don't get any at all! I even let it count all the way down ......... and ......... wait for it .......... the widget closed down.
Grrrrrrreat
The question is. What's it all about then? What is all the fuss? -and that goes for the TV programme too.

When you download it, you should get a file named: Lost.zip. Extract Lost.zip. Then you should get the widget (Lost.widget) and a text file (readme.txt). Just click Lost.widget to open it, you don't need to extract it.
Hope that helps.

It would be funny if the Widget shut down your computer if you failed to put the code in, but I'm not suggesting you do that because it could be considered malicious and people could lose unsaved work. If only Konfabulator had the power to do something like an effect where the desktop melts and slips away or something. That would be awesome! Impossible though.
Perhaps we'll have to wait and see if they ever stop entering the code in the show to find out what happens ;)
